THINGS TO DO

-

1. Clematis by Night. Through August, Clematis by Night has extended hours — offering free entertainment, food and drink specials, and seating under the stars — from 6-10 p.m. on Thursdays.

The lineup on Aug. 9 will be B-Side Jones, a funk/rock band, with headliner Andrew Luv & The Franchise Players Band (R&B/Pop/Top 40).

On Aug. 16, classic pop rock band Mischief opens, for headliner Poor Life Decisions, a rock band.

2. School spirit. Cheerleaders will pack the entrances to West Palm schools on Monday, Aug. 13, but not the kind with batons and pompoms. These will be community leaders and other volunteers to applaud students as they start the school year. If you want to join the crowd, email City Commissioner Cory Neering at neeringc@yahoo.com. “Let’s show our youth they are important, their education is important and we are standing alongside them on their educational journey,” Neering says about the program, which is called The Ties that Bind, Hi-Fives for Student Success.

3. Sensory Saturdays: Special exploration hours. The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium will be hosting Sensory Saturdays on the 1st Saturday of each month, inviting families affected by autism spectrum disorder for a special morning visit, from 8 to 10 a.m., before the museum opens to the public. Experience the exhibits without crowds, with softened general lighting and decreased noise level and visual stimulation on interactive exhibits. The facility is also ADA accessible and wheelchair friendly.

Admission is half-off: $8.50 for adults, $7.50 for seniors, $6.50 for children 3-12, free for children under 3, and free for members. Admission tickets can be purchased at the door. For groups of 15 or more, call 561832-2026.

4. West Palm Bar Crawl. The event fills the streets of Clematis and City Place Saturday, from 6:30 to 11 p.m. You’ll get five Free Mixed Drinks or Beers at five bars, for $15 in advance.
