THINGS TO DO
1. The Petty Hearts, the National Tom Petty Tribute Show: Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Abacoa Amphitheater, 1267 Main St., in Jupiter. The free show is part of the Abacoa Summer Concert Series put on by the Abacoa Property Owners’ Assembly. The five-person tribute band plays “faithful renditions” of songs from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, according to The Petty Hearts’ website. Almost a year after Petty died, the band says they “are committed to honoring both Tom and his bandmates by re-creating the live concert experience and playing the songs the world loves and appreciates.”
2. All Star Dance & Drill Team: The “community-based, performance dance team,” as described by the group’s Facebook page, is holding a second round of free trial classes for dancers between the ages of 5 and 12 on Saturday at the Jupiter Community Center, 200 Military Trail. The class for ages 5 to 8 will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., and the class for ages 9 to 12 will run from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The regular program will start in September, according to the town of Jupiter’s Facebook page. 3. Back 2 School BMX Jam: BMX riders of all ages can join this local competition on Aug. 25 at the Jupiter Skate Park at Abacoa Community Park, 1501 W. Frederick Small Road. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the contest begins at noon. Registration cost for the four age groups is $15: 12 and under; 13 to 15; 16 to 29; and 30 and over. For the open class, registration is $25 and the prizes are $150 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third place.
