Second arrest made in firebomb try on couple
WEST PALM BEACH — Authorities have arrested a second person following an alleged firebomb attack on a couple last month outside a West Palm Beach apartment complex.
Police arrested Cleo Washington, 42, of Riviera Beach, on Sunday in connection with a July 6 attack in the 1400 block of Pointe Drive. He faces charges of attempted murder, second-degree arson and possessing, manufacturing or transporting a firebomb.
Police allege that Washington accompanied his sister, 33-year-old Latoya Fleming, that morning to her former husband’s residence at the Paradise Cove Condominiums to confront Fleming’s ex and another woman.
One of the victims told police she saw Washington get out of the passenger seat of a car and throw a brick and two ignited objects at the car in which she and Fleming’s ex-husband were seated.
The couple escaped from the vehicle without injury.
Fleming allegedly had made threats against the couple the night before, and on the day of the incident, got out of her vehicle yelling, “We told you we’re gonna kill you (expletive).”
Fleming and her former husband have been involved in a dispute over child custody, police said.
She was arrested on attempted murder charges July 12 and is being held in the county jail.
Washington remained in custody Monday after a judge ordered that he be held without bail on the attempted murder charges.
