Bryant, Browns to keep talking; Foles’ injury minor

-

Dez Bryant and the Browns are in a holding pattern.

The free agent wide receiver concluded his visit with Cleveland on Friday without agreeing to a contract, but “conversations continue,” a person familiar with negotiations told The Associated Press.

A three-time Pro Bowler during eight seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Bryant and agent Kim Maile met with Browns officials at team headquarters Thursday. The discussions carried over to a second day, ending with a promise to stay in touch.

It’s not known if Bryant has left town. The Browns hosted the Bills in an exhibition game Friday night.

Once one of the NFL’s top receivers, the sometimes temperamental Bryant was cut by Dallas in April. Although the Browns are coming off a 0-16 season, Bryant is intrigued about joining them.

The 29-year-old reached out to general manager John Dorsey after watching the team on HBO’s “Hard Knocks.”

Bryant is also friends with wide receiver Jarvis Landry, a three-time Pro Bowl selection with Miami who came to Cleveland in a trade.

The Browns are waiting on former All-Pro receiver Josh Gordon to return to the team as he focuses on his health and addiction treatment plan in Florida.

Eagles: Quarterback Nick Foles was confident that the shoulder injury that forced him out of Thursday’s preseason game against the Patriots was minor. And Friday, tests confirmed his initial feelings and the team doesn’t anticipate a prolonged recovery, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP suffered the injury during the second quarter when he took a hit to his throwing arm on a strip sack by Patriots defensive end Adrian Clayborn. Foles immediately recoiled in pain, grabbing his arm near the elbow and shoulder area.

The Eagles will focus on making sure Foles is healthy for the start of the regular season as starter Carson Wentz finalizes his rehab from ACL and LCL tears he suffered last December.

Patriots: First-round draft choice Isaiah Wynn, an offensive lineman from Georgia, tore his left Achilles during Thursday’s preseason game against the Eagles and will miss the season, according to reports from ESPN, NFL Network and the Boston Globe.

Wynn, the 23rd overall pick, had been working during training camp as the Patriots’ backup left tackle. This past week, the club began giving him some repetitions at right tackle with the top unit.

Seahawks: Added veteran linebacker Erik Walden and terminated the contract of defensive end Marcus Smith. Smith spent 2017 with Seattle and re-signed with the team this offseason on a one-year deal. However, the former Eagles first-round pick had missed the past few days of practice because of a personal matter and the Seahawks released him so he could tend to those issues.

Walden, 32, is a 10-year veteran who spent last season with the Titans and the previous four years with the Colts. He had a career-high 11 sacks in 2016.
