Meyer investigation to wrap up Sunday
Ohio State says factfinders investigating coach Urban Meyer’s handling of domestic abuse allegations against a former assistant will deliver a report to university leaders sometime next week.
The school announced Friday that the investigation will wrap up on Sunday as planned, and a report will be delivered to the six-person group appointed by trustees to coordinate the probe.
The report will then be shared with trustees in a still-unscheduled executive meeting next week.
Meyer has been on paid leave since Aug. 1.
ODDS AND ENDS
MLB: Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer, one of the leading candidates for the AL Cy Young Award, will be out four to six weeks because of a stress fracture in his right leg.
Bauer, who believes he’ll return earlier than the team’s timetable, was hit by Jose Abreu’s liner Saturday against the Chicago White Sox.
■ Reds first baseman Joey Votto was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right lower leg injury.
Tennis: Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Simona Halep made quick work of their rain-delayed matches Friday and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Western & Southern Open in Mason, Ohio, facing the daunting challenge of playing a few hours later in extremely humid conditions.
Federer needed only 72 minutes to beat Leonardo Mayer 6-1, 7-6 (6), leaving him on course for a record eighth Cincinnati title.
