-

Mike Tirico is adding to his many duties at NBC by taking over as studio host for “Football Night In America.” Tirico, who also does play by play on Notre Dame games and a slew of other hosting assignments, replaces Dan Patrick and joins Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison on the Sunday program that has been the most-watched studio show in sports since 2006.

Redskins: Signed fourtime All-Pro RB Adrian Peterson, 33, who joins his fourth team as he enters what would be his 12th NFL season. The 2012 MVP is 12th all-time in rushing with 12,276 yards and needs 37 to pass Jim Brown. The ex-Viking split last season between Arizona and New Orleans, playing 10 games and finishing with 529 yards rushing and two TDs.

Broncos: Menelik Watson’s time in Denver is over. The Broncos placed the oft-injured offensive lineman on IR with a chest injury and plan to release him once he’s healthy, taking a $6.83 million salary cap hit this year.

Vikings: Released kicker Kai Forbath, completing their plan to turn over the job to rookie Daniel Carlson. Carlson ended his college career at Auburn as the SEC’s alltime scoring leader.

Titans: The secondary took another hit with CB Kalen Reed becoming their third defensive back to go on injured reserve this preseason.

Lions: Placed LB Steve Longa on injured reserve with a torn knee ligament.

Rams: Right tackle Rob Havenstein agreed to terms of a four-year contract extension through the ’22 season.

Bears: CB Deiondre’ Hall was suspended for the season opener at Green Bay for a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
