Anchorage Park’s seawall nearing Oct. 1 completion
Rebuild highlights first phase of the $1 million village project.
NORTH PALM BEACH — The first phase of a $1 million project to renovate Anchorage Park is nearing completion.
The village is about a month away from finishing work on a new seawall at the park’s marina, Public Works Director Steven Hallock said.
The new seawall will join other upgrades that already have been completed at the 21-acre park. They include a new walking path and landscaping, new irrigation systems park-wide, new sod and clay on the baseball field, new dirt and grass in the park’s “bowl” area and new grass in the smaller of two dog parks.
The upgrades were needed after years of heavy use, village communications manager Ed Cunningham said.
“There were a lot of maintenance issues that we just had to get caught up on, that hadn’t been done over the years,” Cunningham said. “The grass was brown and there were weeds.”
The seawall also was in poor shape, Cunningham said. The aging structure, which Cunningham said was decades old, was getting weak in places.
Work on that project began in April and is expected to be complete by Oct. 1. The village is on schedule and within budget, Hallock said.
The seawall will cost about $740,000 to replace. That total includes engineering and construction costs.
Funding for that project and others at Anchorage Park comes from grants, sales tax money and money from the village’s general fund, Hallock said.
Once work on the seawall is complete, the village will move
on to other improvements on the north side of the marina. Those include 16 boat slips, a 250-foot floating dock, threeday docks for short visits, two pavilions, two kayak launches, two ADA-accessible ramps, a 370-foot trail system and two observation/ fishing decks.
The village will move forward with improvements to the south side of the marina once funding becomes avail- able, Cunningham said.
“We want to make the park the best it could be for residents,” Cunningham said. “We want to make it a desirable place to be.”
