Also, Nebraska picked freshman Adrian Martinez and Tristan Gebbia, who he beat out, is no longer enrolled at the university, the registrar said. Elsewhere:

New Mississippi State coach Joe Moorhead said starting QB Nick Fitzgerald is suspended for Saturday’s game vs. Stephen F. Austin because of a “violation of team policy.” Moorhead also said DL Cory Thomas won’t play.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said receiver Tarik Black will be out for weeks with a broken right foot.

UCLA coach Chip Kelly identified six players who will be suspended for the Bruins’ opener. OL Boss Tagaloa, TE Devin Asiasi, RB Soso Jamabo, DL Osa Odighizuwa, DB Mo Osling and DL Moses Robinson-Carr won’t play vs. Cincinnati because of unspecified policy violations. Tagaloa and Asiasi are suspended for the first three games of the season.

Ex-Illinois QB Jeff George Jr. transferred from Michigan to Pittsburgh. It is not immediately clear if he’ll be eligible to play this season.

Arizona transfer linebacker Santino Marchiol was dismissed from the team after a video surfaced of him appearing to use a racial slur to describe former teammates at Texas A&M.
