Men have plastic surgery too!

- PLASTIC SURGERY Brian Hass, MD

We are all aware that women have plastic surgery procedures, but just as many men are walking into our office. And although many have come with a spouse, just as many men come without the gentle push from a partner.

Recently, we are seeing more male patients for body-contouring procedures with CoolSculpting or even liposuction for their love handles, muffin tops, male chest reduction and even double chins. There’s little or no downtime and the results are impressive. However, we see lots of men now requesting facial rejuvenation.

Men want to feel better about their self-image, just like women. And, let’s face it, no gym workout is going to get rid of facial wrinkles or fat pads around the eyes. For some, the quick fixes with BOTOX or other facial injectables around the brow, eyes or nasal folds can be enough. When those are not enough, our patients will choose to do facial surgery with a tuck of the neck or jowls, or eyelid lift for heavy bags around the eyes. We’ve also recently introduced a less invasive skin-tightening procedure called ThermiTight for those with just a little laxity in the jowl and neck area, or there’s even Kybella for double chins.

We often call these improvements the “Executive Makeover” or “Refresh for Retirement Plan” as some seek cosmetic improvements for that extra advantage in the business world, dating world, or for their golden retirement years. Whatever the reason for cosmetic improvement, the trend is here to stay as more men are paying attention to how they look and age – just as women have been doing for years. As we always tell our patients – including the men: “Hey – why not look as good as you feel?”
