Get new teeth – quickly!

- IMPLANT AND RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY Mitchel Senft, DMD, DICOI

Question: Can you really get teeth in a day?

Answer: Yes, you can get teeth in a day. A day is 24 hours. Depending on the office you choose to have your procedure done, there are different ways to achieve the same goal.

Some offices, you may have your surgery done on the morning of one day and your prosthesis delivered by the afternoon the next day.

Other offices, you can have the surgical procedure in the morning and the prosthesis delivered after the surgical procedure same day. Either of these procedures are acceptable.

The one thing that you have to understand with either one of these procedures is that you won’t get your teeth the first visit to the office and maybe not the second. To achieve this standard of care, it takes meticulous planning.

You will first need to be screened to see if you are a good candidate for this procedure. Once that is determined and if you wish to proceed further, then a full evaluation of your particular situation will be performed. The procedures that will need to be performed to gather all the necessary information are:

■ A CBCT (a 3D scan of the arch you want to repair will be reviewed to determine the quantity and quality of your bone).

■ Molds of your existing teeth, edentulous ride or rides, dentures and a bite registration, to relate both upper and lower arches will need to be obtained.

■ Finally, photos of your face, your smile and your profiles.

Equipped with all this information, a provisional prosthesis with the best implant positions is fabricated. This way, when you present for your big day your smile awaits.
