Congresswoman Lois Frankel will lead a town hall conversation with local officials about the issue of gun violence today at 7 p.m. at the Wellington Community Center, 12150 Forest Hill Blvd.

Officials will take questions from the audience and discuss possible steps to address gun violence, Frankel’s office said.

The event falls 12 days after two people were critically injured in a shooting toward the end of a football game at Palm Beach Central High School, and six months after a Valentine’s Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland left 17 dead and more than a dozen injured.

It also follows a fatal shooting that left three dead in Jacksonville on Sunday.

In statements following each shooting, Frankel has called for “common sense” gun safety laws.

“Across America, communities&families are ripped apart by gun violence,” Frankel tweeted Monday. “This weekend, we saw yet another tragic shooting in Florida. My thoughts are with the victims in Jacksonville, but thoughts alone are not enough - we need common sense gun safety legislation.”

Since the shooting at Central, Palm Beach County School District officials have increased police presence on campuses and at games, tweaked football game schedules and changed security protocols at high school stadiums.
