Late eagle gives Simpson one-shot lead at TPC Boston

-

Webb Simpson rolled in an eagle putt from 70 feet off the 18th green for an 8-under 63 to take a one-shot lead in the Dell Technologies Championship in Norton, Mass.

A gorgeous Saturday in New England allowed for low scoring at the TPC Boston. Tyrrell Hatton had eight birdies for a 63 and was one shot behind, along with Justin Rose (67). Tiger Woods shot a 66 to stay in the picture, though he was seven behind.

Simpson did most of his damage on the front nine and was playing a clean round when he opted to use his putter from left of the green on the par-5 closing hole. He hit it with the right pace on the right line and wound up with the lead at 11-under 131.

LPGA: Georgia Hall shot a 9-under 63 Friday to take a three-stroke lead in the Cambia Portland Classic and break the tournament 36-hole record. The Women’s British Open winner four weeks ago for her first LPGA Tour title, the 22-year-old Englishwoman made five straight birdies in the middle of the back nine. Hall had a 15-under 129 total. Minjee Lee was second, following her opening 64 with a 68.

European Tour: Lee Westwood moved in sight of his first win in more than four years after taking a onestroke lead in the Made In Denmark event after a 5-under 67 in the third round in Aarhus, Denmark.

Champions: Joe Durant eagled the par-5 18th for a 7under 63 and a one-stroke lead over Miguel Angel Jimenez at the Shaw Charity Classic in Calgary, Alberta.

World Amateur title: NCAA champ Jennifer Kupcho and two-time U.S. Women’s Amateur champ Kristen Gillman led the United States to a 10-shot victory in the Women’s World Amateur Teach Championship in Kildare, Ireland.
