Fun, functional gifts for students who are heading back to school

- By Jim Rossman Dallas Morning News

It’s the end of summer, so I thought I’d offer up some gift and gadget ideas for high school and college students headed back to school.

Truth be told, I still have a few late graduation gifts to buy. Either way, any student would welcome one of these handy items.

Rowkin Micro Touch wireless earbuds What it is:

Rowkin’s Micro Touch wireless earbuds have a different, smaller design and a lower price than Apple’s AirPods. They sound good once you find the right tips for your ears. Like AirPods, Micro Touch earbuds ship with a carrying case with a battery so you can charge them on the go.

Who it’s for: I’m pretty sure every student uses earbuds, so just about everyone.

What it costs: $119.99 Where to get it: Rowkin.com

Brooks England New Street briefcase What it is:

If you want to make a statement, ditch the backpack and carry your gear in a briefcase. The New Street is made of waterproof nylon and has tons of pockets for everything from a laptop to books to pens and keys. It also comes with a mounting rail so you can attach it to a bicycle.

Who it’s for: The soon-to-be graduate who doesn’t want to take a backpack to a job interview. What it costs: $200

Where to get it: Brooks England

Beats Solo 3 wireless headphones What it is:

Beats are known for their good sound with plenty of bass, and the Solo 3 Wireless headphones are no exception. They have a 40-hour battery life and charge quickly, too. A five-minute charge will keep the music playing for three hours.

The Solo 3 has an Apple W1 chip that makes pairing with Apple devices quick and easy.

Who it’s for: Everyone loves music.
