JUPITER DOG PARK OPENING IN OCT.
Fido might have to wait until the dog days of summer are over before he can lay a paw in Cinquez Park.
The completion of Phase I of the project, which includes a dog park, may not be ready for the public until October.
“The park is likely to have a soft opening ... in October with a grand opening to follow,” according to Jupiter spokeswoman Kate Moretto.
What’s the holdup? The rainy summer weather has put off the project’s completion, by three months later than expected.
The town has received a lot of calls inquiring about the delay, said Chrystal Atwell, an administrative specialist in the town’s engineering department.
“Everybody wants to know about the dog park,” she said.
Lake Worth-based firm West Architecture + Design is in charge of the 13-acre, $3-million project, Atwell said.
Aside from the dog park, which will have two fenced areas for large and small dogs, the first phase also includes street parking, sidewalks, lighting, a lake, a small restroom and storage building.
The town first acquired the land, at 2183 W. Indiantown Road, in 2008. Staff cleared the area of debris and planted native vegetation.
The second phase of the project is still in the design phase, Atwell said, and could include a playground, more sidewalks, another gazebo and a treehouse around a banyan tree within the park.
In the meantime, what is a pooch to do? Here are some other options (remember, in the town of Jupiter all dogs must remain on leashes):
■ F.I.N.D. Park, 232 River Park Drive
■ Dog Beach, 2188 Marcinski Road, between beach markers No. 25 and No. 59
■ K-9 Corner at Tequesta Park, 2280 County Line Road
