Meyer back on Buckeyes’ campus
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer returned to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center for the first time in a month, for a staff meeting. Under terms of his suspension by Ohio State, Meyer can be on campus, talk to assistants and conduct practice, but he is required to disappear for the 24-hour period surrounding the next two games. He’ll be back on the sideline for the Sept. 22 home game vs. Tulane. Meyer was put on paid leave and then suspended for his mismanagement of now-fired assistant coach Zach Smith, who was accused of domestic violence and other troubling behavior.
Alabama: Coach Nick Saban made it official: Tua Tagovailoa is the starting QB. Tagovailoa, hero of the national championship game against Georgia, made his first start in a 51-14 victory over Louisville. Start No. 2 is Saturday vs. Arkansas State.
LSU routs Miami: No. 25 LSU make a strong opening statement in Arlington, Texas on Sunday night. Nick Brossette ran for 125 yards with his first two career TDs and grad transfer quarterback Joe Burrow won his first college start as the Tigers beat No. 8 Miami 33-17.
Media: The Big Ten Network suspended analyst Braylon Edwards for violating its social media policy after the ex-Michigan receiver tweeted harsh criticism of the Wolverines and coach Jim Harbaugh. BTN didn’t elaborate on why Edwards was suspended but after the Wolverines lost 24-17 at Notre Dame, Edwards tweeted that Michigan football was “trash,” specifically targeting center Cesar Ruiz and QB Shea Patterson.
