US better recognize Putin’s threat...

Our countrymen and women, as well as their elected Republican representatives, may not appreciate the danger that Putin poses in his quest to restore the “glory of the Soviet empire.” If we were to jog our memories to the not-too-distant past and recall the isolationism and fear that resulted in the world-wide conflagration known as the Second World War, we may begin to recognize how dangerous the situation is, not just for the Ukraine but for the rest of the countries bordering Russia and, as an extension, for the world. The Ukrainians are asking only for our money to continue their resistance. It is actually in our selfinterest not to refuse.

... and that of Putin’s acolyte, Donald Trump

To all Americans, when you go to vote in the 2024 presidential election, please remember the date, Feb. 10, 2024, when presumptive Republican nominee, Donald Trump encouraged Russia to attack any NATO ally who was not up to date on paying their fair share of NATO defense; implying we will not honor Article 5 of the NATO agreement stating when one country is attacked, all NATO members will defend.

The ramifications are too staggering to envision. The voters can prevent this lunacy from happening, on Election Day.

DeSantis’ life stance troubling

Re the Feb. 7 letter about Gov. DeSantis’ priorities: I am in total agreement. Apparently he hasn’t any interest in keeping programs for women and children alive, because once they are born, they are disregarded. It’s always the women and children who suffer. I wonder what Casey DeSantis’ position is on her husband’s choices?

Mexico should close its southern border

If the article on Feb. 8, “US buying more from Mexico than China,” has any meaning, than the US should demand Mexico close its southern borders or at least hold all these potential illegals from entering the US because we, the US will stop its open trade with Mexico until they stop this overflow of illegals.

If Biden refuses than Trump will jump on the band wagon as he did before to stop this overflowing of illegals.

Age-change on guns and strippers perplexing

I just finished reading Frank Cerabino’s column “Florida lawmakers see danger in strip clubs, not AR-15s.” The part about changing the age to purchase military-style weapons by simply striking out the current number “21” and simply changing it to “18” is mind numbing.

And regarding changing the age of strip club dancers from 18 to 21: It would be interesting to see how many state legislators can cite where there are dancers under “21.”

Florida needs better recall laws

While local officials can be recalled, there is no provision for a recall election for state officials. Gov. DeSantis has clearly demonstrated he is unfit for office with his Trump-like tyrannical actions. Yet, we are stuck with him for the next three years, due to there being no recall mechanism in Florida. His latest moves with his “private army” are just another example in a long line of actions to curb the rights of Floridians. Hence the need for a state constitutional amendment which would allow the voters to recall a bad actor like DeSantis.
