Phoenixville skipping Chester County League this summer
Phoenixville is not fielding a teamin the Chester County Senior American Legion baseball league this summer.
Due to a lack of numbers in the turnout for the team, the team has a lack of pitching necessary to compete in the CCL, which features at least three games per week during the regular season.
New Phoenixville Area High School head coach Neil Herman decided to have Phoenixville play a non-league schedule of games and to compete in a variety of showcase tournaments at various sites this summer.
The 2016 senior team consists of members of this spring’s senior high school varsity and junior varsity team as well as one addition in Quinn Danna.
Phoenixville played a June 6 game at Lionville with the locals dropping a 4-0 decision.
Luke LeBeau picked up two hits in the contest and Matt Osisek-Byrne had one hit. Colin Bowdish was Phoenixville’s starting pitcher. He pitched four innings and allowed four runs. Danna and Zach Masalski each pitched an inning of shutout relief ball.
Phoenixville was scheduled to play a game at West Lawn on Wednesday night, June 8, under the lights with a 7 p.m. start.
There is a possibility Phoenixville will have a game on Sunday, June 12, against Boyertown, depending on how the Bears do in the PIAA Class AAAA state playoffs on Thursday, June 9. An original game for that day slated against Paoli was changed, forcing the locals to seek out an alternate game.
Phoenixville return home to play a contest on Wednesday, June 15, at 6 p.m. at Doc Kennedy Field against the Daniel Boone team from the Birds-
boro area.
On Friday, June 24, Phoenixville is scheduled to play a home game against Exeter at 6 p.m.
Herman has arranged a tournament schedule that begins with a stop at Staten Island, New York, on Saturday and Sunday, June 18-19, for the Perfect Game Showcase Tournament. Next up is a tourney in Vineland, New Jersey, fromMonday, June 27, through Wednesday, June 29.
On Tuesday, July 19, through Thursday, July 21, Phoenixville will take part in the Dynamics Showcase at Aston, at the Maple Zone Complex, which is a brand new outdoor facility, according to Herman.
From Friday, July 29, through Sunday, July 31, Phoenixville will compete in the Liberty Bell tournament at the same Maple Zone complex in Aston.
