PHOENIXVILLE >> Every neighborhood has someone who goes above and beyond the call of duty in the service of others. Now one local organization is looking to recognize those individuals for their work and thank them for a job well done.

The Phoenixville Community Health Foundation is searching for nominees for the 16th annual Champions of the Community Award. Started in 2000, the award recognizes unsung heroes in the community who volunteer, or otherwise give of their talents, in service of the greater Phoenixville region.

The foundation is accepting nominations for this year’s award through Friday, Sept. 30. The foundation will hold a luncheon in early November to honor the nominees and name the winning champions of the community. Each nominee will receive a personal gift of gratitude from the foundation. The winning champions will be given a $2,000 grant in their name from the foundation to give to the charity of their choice.

“We depend on people in the community to know of others who really qualify to be honored,” said Lynn Pike Hartman, vice president of programs for the Phoenixville Community Health Foundation. “People who have been volunteering for a very long time, people involved in their faith community or their neighborhood. Gen- erally, we put out to community this opportunity to nominate someone they feel is deserving of recognition.”
