Officials recognize fire company’s 95th anniversary
Volunteers with the Limerick Fire Company have had reason to celebrate this month, as the company recognizes a milestone anniversary this year.
The Limerick Township Board of Supervisors formally recognized the Limerick Fire Company for its 95th anniversary during Tuesday night’s meeting. About 15 firefighters from the company were in attendance for the meeting where the supervisors read a letter of recognition. The company will hold a banquet this month to officially celebrate the milestone.
“From the beginning the company has provided effective fire service in the community, main--
taining a commitment to updating its equipment andmethods of operations,” read board Chairman Tom Neafcy Jr., “so firefighters are well prepared to preserve the lives and property of our businesses residents.”
“We appreciate everyone that came out to represent,” board Vice Chairwoman Kara Shuler later added. “We know there’s many more active firefighters in your company. We appreciate who was able to come out and hear us talk to you for a minute.”
The volunteer company was organized in 1921 and chartered in 1927. It began with just 27 charter members but has grown to over 250 members with 35 active firefighters serving the township’s population of over 14,000 people, according to its website.
Company President Tom Walters thanked the board and residents for their support.
“Our plan is to keepmoving forward,” he said, “and to keep doing the work that we’re doing with the wherewithal and honesty that we strive for.”
The company will hold an even bigger celebration for the 100 year anniversary by hosting the Firemen’s Association of the State of Pennsylvania annual convention, he said.
