Perkiomen Valley No. 3 in recent district power rankings; SF No. 9
District 1 released its high school football power rankings Monday afternoon. North Penn remains at No. 1 followed by No. 2 Neshaminy. Perkiomen Valley is No. 3 followed by Central Bucks South, Downingtown East, Ridley, Central Bucks East and Coatesville. Spring-Ford is No. 9 with Penn Wood rounding out the top 10.
In Class 5A, Springfield-Delco moves to No. 1 after its thrilling overtime victory over Ridley. Upper Dublin, the reigning 4A champion, ranks No. 2 with Academy Park, Marple Newtown and Bishop Shanahan completing the top 5.
In Class 4A, Interboro remains No. 1 with Pottsgrove at No. 2. Upper Perkiomen and PJP are Nos. 3 and 4 with Pottstown and Octorara rounding out the six-team field.

Phoenixville’s Matt Garcia eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in Friday night’s loss to Pope John Paul II. The senior running back eclipsed the mark the fastest since Cody Richmond in 2013. Tyrell Barr, the league leader last year with 1,313 yards, didn’t reach the mark until Week 8.

• PJP matched their school-best winning streak, topping Phoenixville for its third-straight victory. Brandon Knox continues to shine for PJP. The Pottsgrove transfer rushed for 168 yards and two scores on 21 carries in the win.
• David Williams has stepped up. Perkiomen Valley’s Williams had 60 receiving yards and 40 rushing yards, but his most pivotal play came on a long run by Boyertown QB Ayden Mathias. Mathias broke through the PV front 7 and looked destined for a 85-yard TD score ... until Williams showed off his speed and tracked the QB down at the 15 and forced him out of bounds. Boyertown didn’t score and PV won via a 30-0 shutout.
• Perk shines under the lights. For the second time in three years, the Perkiomen School played under the lights at Upper Perkiomen. The Panthers made easy work of Nativity BVM 38-0.
• Conwell-Egan continues to surge. The Eagles are 4-1 after a 26-0 victory over Lansdale Catholic on Saturday night. This is the second straight 4-1 start for Egan, which finished 1-9 in 2013.
• No. 2 Neshaminy keeps rolling. The Redskins (No. 2 in 6A District 1 power rankings) improved to 6-0 with a 21-0 victory over Abington in a battle between the top two teams in the Suburban One National. Mason Jones threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
• Four area teams posted shutouts this week. PV topped Boyertown 30-0, Spring-Ford beat Methacton 45-0, Perk School topped Nativity BVM 38-0 and Governor Mifflin topped Daniel Boone 42-0.
