Festival celebrates Mouns Jones 300th Anniversar­y

Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Mouns Jones 300th Anniversar­y will be celebrated by the Historic Preservati­on Trust of Berks County with an exciting living history event at Morlatton Village. Costumed volunteers will demonstrat­e a variety of eighteenth and early nineteenth century crafts and trades and visitors can enjoy tours of the buildings in Morlatton Village. There will also be handson activities for children and their families to enjoy.

Morlatton Village will come alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. Volunteers will demonstrat­e a variety of crafts and trades including textile processing, hearth cooking, and leatherwor­king. There will also be ongoing presentati­ons on colonial clothing and The 300th anniversar­y of the Mouns Jones House will be celebrated Saturday Oct. 15at Morlatton Village.

Several of the buildings in the Village will be open for tours, including the White Horse Inn, the George Douglass House, and the Michael Fulp House. There will also be fun, fall themed activities for children and their families including pumpkin and face painting.

Also ongoing throughout the day, Michael Barnett and Ted Hallman will

give an amended version of their presentati­on from the gala dinner the night before, “Creating Amity in New Sweden Colony and Morlatton Village: The Native Legacy of Sven Gunnarrson, Gertrude Svensdotte­r and Jonas Nilsson, and Mouns Jones and Ingeborg Lycon.”

Hallman is a descendent of Mouns Jones and their presentati­on will look at Mouns Jones and Ingeborg Lycon, as well as their families, and how they lived among the Lenape and Susquehann­ocks in the Delaware and Schuylkill River regions.

Don’t forget to stop by theWhite Horse Inn where visitors can enjoy a light lunch in the authentic tavern atmosphere. In the bar room, Ridgewood Winery will be offering compliment­ary wine tastings. Also in the White Horse, the Amity Colonial Dancers will demonstrat­e several colonial and Early American dances and visitors can even join in!

Admission is a $10 per person suggested donation. Trust members and children 12 and under are free. Wine tastings will be limited to visitors 21 and older. Rain or shine.
