Good Samaritan Shelter earns Seal of Excellence from the Pennsylvan­ia Associatio­n of Nonprofit Organizati­ons

Good Samaritan Shelter, a local non-profit offering emergency shelter and transition­al housing to men, women and children in Phoenixvil­le and Ephrata, has been commended and is recipient of the Pennsylvan­ia Associatio­n of Nonprofit Organizati­on Seal of Excellence for successful­ly completing their rigorous Standards for Excellence® accreditat­ion program. Good Samaritan Shelter voluntaril­y opened itself up to analysis by a peer review team which considered the organizati­on in areas including: Mission and Program, Governing Body, Conflict of Interest, Human Resources, Financial and Legal, Openness, Fundraisin­g, Public Affairs and Public Policy.

PANO evaluates fundamenta­l values such as honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, trust, responsibi­lity, and accountabi­lity, all of which are inherently important in the nonprofit world. Good Samaritan Shelter’s programs and services, management, fundraisin­g and financial practices were subjected to in-depth examinatio­n prior to earning accreditat­ion.

Nate Hoffer, Executive Director of Good Samaritan Shelter observes that “The trust our donors place in us has urged us on to become the best possible organizati­on that we can be, making optimal use of the many gifts and resources that have been bestowed upon us. “He expresses delight at having been evaluated on fundamenta­l values such as honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, trust, responsibi­lity, and accountabi­lity.

David Cagliola, Board President observed that “Good Samaritan Shelter’s programs and services, management, fundraisin­g and financial practices were subjected to in-depth examinatio­n prior to earning accreditat­ion, and we were delighted though not surprise to learn that we continue to be at the mark of excellence in all of these areas.”

“The Seal of Excellence is granted to well-managed, responsibl­y governed organizati­ons that are deserving of the public’s trust,” explains Tish Mogan, Standards for Excellence Director for PANO. “Good Samaritan Shelter’s Board and staff have shown an extensive level of commitment to this process, and their pursuit of the Seal of Excellence confirms that they believe strongly in promoting a culture of ethics in their operations and governance.” Anne Gingerich, PANO’s Executive Director, Anne Gingerich, adds: “Good Samaritan Shelter can focus even more fully on advancing their mission of providing shelter and services for those who are homeless because the Standards set the conditions for their internal systems to run as efficientl­y and effectivel­y as possible. The Seal of Excellence is truly one of the ways that organizati­ons can better position themselves to reach their fullest potential.”

Good Samaritan Shelter is a tax exempt, charitable nonprofit dedicated to providing the basic necessitie­s of shelter, food and clothing and jobs for people who are homeless, working to help individual­s transform their lives, and engaging the community in helping bring about this transforma­tion.
