Kampf leads in 157th House Dist. race
The race for Pennsylvania’s 157th House District seat went well into the night as early results showed incumbent Republican Rep. Warren Kampf with a sizeable lead against Democratic challenger Hans van Mol.
According to unofficial results posted by the Chester and Montgomery County board of elections websites, Kampf led with 15,339 votes while van Mol received 12,684. However, none of the three polling stations in Montgomery County had reported in as of midnight Tuesday. Instead, the county showed a total of 1,624 unaccounted votes, making the race too close to call.
The 157th District includes Tredyffrin and Schuylkill townships, sections of Upper Providence Township and most of Phoenixville.
Other than a two-year stint by Democrat Paul Drucker stretching from 2009 and 2010, the 157th has been a Republican district fromits establishment in 1969. Kampf, 49, a for- mer prosecutor in Philadelphia and York counties, took the seat away from Drucker in 2010 and has held it since.
He currently serves on the appropriations, liquor control, consumer affairs, and insurance committees and was named co-chairman of the House life science caucus. While the Tredyffrin resident works full time in Harrisburg, he’s also an attorney with the law firm White and Williams.
Van Mol, 27, also from Tredyffrin, hopes to bring a youthful, millennial spirit to Harrisburg. He currently teaches music part time and is an inventory manager for J.W. Pepper, the world’s largest music distribution company.
