Voters split in tight top ticket returns in Chesco

Chester County voters split their preference­s in races at the top of the ticket by very tight margins Tuesday night, according to unofficial results.

Democrat Hillary Clinton won the overwhelmi­ngly Republican county by the largest margin, with 52.03 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results from the Chester County web site with 95 percent of the votes counted.

Donald Trump collected 42.4 percent while Liber- tarian Gary Johnson won 2.88 percent.

But in the U.S. Senate race, Chester County voters preferred incumbent Republican Pat Toomey — barely — giving him 49.28 percent of their votes, and giving Democratic challenger Katie McGinty 47.07 percent, according to unofficial results.

Libertaria­n candidate Edward Clifford won 3.54 percent of Chester County’s remaining votes.

In the Attorney General’s race, Chester County barely gave the nod to Democrat Josh Shapiro, the chairman of the Montgomery County Commission­ers, with 50.08 percent of the vote to 49.82 for state Sen. John Rafferty, the Republican.

In the Auditor General’s race, however, incumbent Democrat Eugene DePasquale won the favor of only 44.82 percent of Chester County’s voters, while Republican challenger John Brown collected 48.58 percent of their votes, according to unofficial results.

But in another flip, the race for the open State Treasurer seat saw Chester County’s preference was for Democrat Joe torsella, who won 47.98 percent of the vote to Republican Otto Voit’s 45.79 percent.

The Green Party candidate, Kristin Combs, won 3.41 percent of the vote and the Libertaria­n, James Babb, won 2.74 percent
