Democrats sweep top of ticket in Montco

In terms of the top of the ticket, Montgomery County voters went for Democrats on Election Day.

With 90 percent of the votes counted, unofficial results on the county’s web site showed Democrat Hillary Clinton winning nearly 60 percent of the vote, with 222,865 votes to Donald Trump’s 38 percent, or 143,329 according to unofficial results.

Libertaria­n Gary Johnson came in third with 2.54 percent of the vote and Green Party candidate Jill Stein received less than 1 percent.

In the U.S. Senate rate, Democratic challenger Katie McGinty ran strongly in Montgomery County, winning almost 55 percent of the vote to Republican incumbent Pat Toomey’s 44 percent.

In the attorney general’s race, two Montgomery County candidates faced off, but voters preferred the Democrat by a vast margin. Montgomery County Commission­ers Chairman Josh Shapiro won 59 percent of the county’s vote to 40.6 percent for state Sen. John Rafferty.

Incumbent Auditor General Democrat Eugene DePasquale won Montgomery County by 54.3 percent, according to unofficial results, while Republican John Brown won 43 percent.

The Green and Libertaria­n candidates for Auditor General, John Sweeney and Roy Minet, each took just over 1 percent of the vote.

For State Treasurer, Montgomery County voters again chose the Democrat, Joe Torsella, who won 57.6 percent of the vote, while Republican Otto Voit collected 40.3 percent of those votes, according to unofficial results.

Unof f icial f igures showed a voter turn-out rate of roughly 66 percent across Montgomery County.
