Away to help cancer patients
Phoenixville YMCA Togetherhood team is finding rewarding ways to give back and support the community. Through the Togetherhood program, Phoenixville Hospital Cancer Center has the need and the Kneedlers have delivered.
Active YMCA member Gregory Vallino met with Phoenixville Hospital Cancer Center and was introduced to Heather Lineburger, Oncology Social Worker. Heather expressed a need of blankets for chemotherapy patients.
Since chemotherapy is a cold treatment, the patients need warmth and the Hospital likes to provide blankets to keep them warm. She opened her cupboards and they were bare. Through social media, donations from patients and Doctors at Village Optical, a supply of yarn was accumulating.
This is where “The Kneedlers” came to the rescue. Members Beverly Burkhardt, Mary Osisek and Anne Mita meet everyMonday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Phoenixville YMCA. With their support and knitting skills, the first batch of blankets were delivered. The goal is to continue helping The Cancer Center and the patients of the community so that the cupboards will never run low and they will always feel warmth.
If you would like to donate blankets, join the Kneedlers or participate in the program please contact Michelle Ferretti, Senior Director of Health and Wellness and Community Outreach at mferretti@philaymca.org or Gregory Vallino OD at gwvallino@villageoptical.net.
