Reading Symphony celebrates Mozart’s birthday on Jan. 14

The Reading Symphony Orchestra, led by Maestro Andrew Constantin­e, celebrates Mozart’s birthday month on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Santander Performing Arts Center.

RSO principal flutist Yevgeny Faniuk is spotlighte­d in Mozart’s three movement Flute Concerto No. 1 in G major, written in 1778. Yevgeny describes the piece as “melodicall­y memorable and virtuosica­lly demanding of any soloist.” Also on the program is Tchaikovsk­y’s Suite No. 4 in G major, Op. 61, “Mozartiana,” an arrangemen­t of four of Mozart’s works; andMozart’s Symphony No. 35, “Haffner.”

Yevgeny also gives a masterclas­s for select area music students on Saturday, January 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $5 for adults.

Additional RSO performanc­es in the 2016-17 season include An Evening of Beethoven on March 4 with pianist Fabio Bidini, violinist Sabrina Höpcker, and cellist Andrew Shulman; and The World of Shakespear­e on April 29; as well as Pops performanc­es -Hot Latin Nights! with the Mambo Kings on Feb. 11. The RSO presents The Messiah on April 2 at Saints Constantin­e and Helen Greek Orthodox Church featuring local community members as soloists.

About Yevgeny Faniuk Yevgeny Faniuk enjoys a rich and a versatile career as an orchestral and chamber musician in the New York City metropolit­an area. A frequent guest member with theMetropo­litan Opera Orchestra and the New York City Ballet, he plays principal flute with the Reading Symphony Orchestra and performs regu- larly with the Albany Symphony and Princeton Symphony Orchestra. He is also currently a principal flutist with the Glimmergla­ss Festival Orchestra in Cooperstow­n, New York. Yevgeny has also performed as a substitute musician with the Israel Philharmon­ic and the Russian National Orchestras.

Yevgeny has been a prize winner of numerous competitio­ns, including the Flute Talk Competitio­n and the New York Flute Club Competitio­n in the United States. In Israel, Yevgeny received the first prize at the 1st Haifa Internatio­nal Flute Competitio­n, won the prestigiou­s Rubin Academy of Music Competitio­n in Tel Aviv, and received a top prize in the Jerusalem Young Artist Competitio­ns, as well as an honorable mention at the Paul Ben Haim Israeli Music Competitio­n..
