Police officers promoted
UPPER PROVIDENCE >> The new year started off well for three police officers in Upper Providence, as they were each officially promoted during Tuesday night’s Board of Supervisors meeting.
Sgt. Jeff Hilt and Cpls. Ryan Sheehan and John Oliveri each took the oath of office in front of newly reappointed board Chairwoman Lisa Mossie and their respective families.
With the promotion, Hilt will now earn a $100,769 salary, while Sheehan and Oliveri will each earn salaries of $97,643.
“Ladies and gentleman it is with great pleasure that I introduce to you three officers who will be promoted to higher rank this evening after a very through and competitive testing process,” Police Chief Mark Toomey said Tuesday
Hilt, Toomey said, started his career in law enforcement with the Franconia Township Police Department in 1992. He served for two years before being hired by Upper Providence Aug. 24, 1994. During his 22½-year tenure with the township, he has served in the patrol division as a field training officer, a community relations officer and a member of
the accident investigation team. Hilt served and continues to serve as a use of force and defensive tactics instructor and as a member of the police motorcycle team. He was promoted to corporal Feb. 19, 2014.
Sheehan began his career with the department Oct. 17, 2011, Toomey said. He previously earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from West Chester University in 2009 and attended the Delaware County Municipal Police Academy in 2010. He then served as a patrolman for the West Chester University Police Department before he was hired by Upper Providence. He received a life saving commendation in 2012 and an award from the FBI for locating and apprehending three suspects involved in an armed robbery in Limerick Township. The field trained officer is responsible for training newly hired officers. He’s also an operator for the Montgomery County SWAT western region team and a member of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Municipal Drug Task Force. In addition, he serves on the township’s bicycle patrol unit.
Oliveri started in Upper Providence in August 2007. He served as a bicycle patrol officer and is vice president of the Upper Providence Township Police Officer’s Association. He’s a field training officer, police review committee member, a member of the Montgomery County SWAT team west since 2013. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from St. Joseph’s University. He currently he serves in the United States Marine Corps, Pennsylvania Army National Guard and currently holds the position of team leader with the rank of staff sergeant in a reconnaissance platoon, Toomey said.
