Dix, Feiser peaking for Bloomsburg swimming

Bloomsburg University standouts Kyle Dix and Sam Feiser are ready to make some noise at the PSAC Swimming Championsh­ips this week in York.

Sophomore Dix (Perkiomen Valley) is seeded first in the 100 butterfly (49.06) and second in both the 200 butterfly (1:51.47) and the 50 freestyle (20.06). The 50 free time is fifth in NCAA Division II.

“Kyle was PSAC Freshman of the Year and an AllAmerica­n and he’s having another great year for the Huskies,” coach Stu Marvin said. “Hewon six events (three individual and three relays) against our rival Indiana last week.”

Junior Feiser (Owen J. Roberts) is ranked third in the 50 free (20.30) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (50.25). The team captain is a four-time PSAC champion.

“Sam is grinding out another tremendous season,” Marvin said. “His leadership carried the team to its first-ever undefeated regular season in program history (7-0).

And the duo’s individual performanc­es are just half of the story. Both are members of the 200 free and 200 and 400 medley relay teams that are all ranked first in the PSAC with the 200 free ranked first, the 200 medley fourth and the 400 medley seventh in Division II.

The junior had a personal best effort for the St. Joseph’s indoor track team when he finished fourth in the mile in 4:12.03 at Yale’s Giegengack Invitation­al on Feb. 4 in New Haven, Conn. And, in the Penn State National on Jan. 27-28 in University Park, he had another PR when he finished second in the 1000 meter run (2:28.37). He also ran a leg on the winning distance medley relay (10:03.49). Sophomore Dylan Eddinger (Boyertown) finished fourth in the 1000 (2:31.30) and helped the DMR finish fifth (10:19.10) at the Giegengack meet.

The Virginia junior has been running well this winter as she prepares to compete in the pentathlon at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championsh­ips (Feb. 2325 in South Bend, Ind. She finished 13th as a sophomore. Sullivan finished 4th in the 800meter run with a personal record time of 2:16.07 and ran a leg on the 4x4 relay which finished third in 3:50.70 at the Darius Dixon Invitation­al Jan. 28 in Lynchburg, Va. She was 5th in the 600meter run (1:35.20) and helped the 4x4 finish fifth (3:48.98) at the Notre Dame Invitation­al Jan. 21 in South Bend, Ind.

The 5-foot-6 sophomore is competing in the vault and on floor exercise for the Ithaca women’s gymnastics team. Her best score in the vault is 9.400 when she finished 13th in a tri-meet on Jan. 21 in Ithaca, N.Y. Her top effort on floor exercise came on Feb. 4 when she finished third with a score of 9.350 in a 189.975-182.300 loss to Brockport. The vault score was a career best while her floor score came up short of the 9.350 she posted last year.

The freshman showed a vast improvemen­t in his first two 5,000 meter races for the Lehigh men’s indoor track team. He posted a time of 15:15.09 to finish fifth at the Villanova Open on Jan. 27 at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island. In his second 5k, he finished ninth in at the Armory Track Invitation­al in New York City with a vastly improved time of 14:58.95. Kirshenbau­m kicked off his indoor career by finishing 19th in the 3,000 meter run at Lehigh’s Angry Bird Challenge on Jan. 14 in Bethlehem.

The freshman is competing in open matches for the Wilkes wrestling team. He’s 12-16 at 154 pounds and finished fourth in theMiddle Atlan- tic Conference Championsh­ips Jan. 21 in Grantham. He received a first round bye but was beaten 16-4 in the second round. In the consolatio­n rounds, he had a bye, a pin and a decision to earn a spot in the third placematch where he was beaten 8-2 by Howard Kirkpatric­k of Kings.

The Kutztown freshman finished second in both the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash at the Frank Colden Invitation­al on Feb. 4 in Collegevil­le. She posted a time of 8.02 to finish second in the 60 prelims and then finished second to a Division I sprinter in the finals in a college career best time of 7.98, the sixth fastest in school history. Her time in the 200 was 26.49. Both are PSAC qualifying times. She also ran the second leg on the 4x4 relay which finished third in 4:14.41.

The 5-foot-11 junior leads the Lycoming women’s basketball team in scoring (13.0), rebounding (7.8) and blocked shots (23). She also has 23 assists and 34 steals. She’s had seven double-doubles including 19 points and 11 rebounds in a 56-52 victory over Hood on Jan. 21 and 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 70-52 triumph over Alvernia on Feb. 1. She had 15 points and five rebounds in a 77-61 victory over Arcadia on Feb. 4 to lift the Warriors to 14-7 overall and 8-5 in MAC Commonweal­th play.

The GeorgeWash­ington senior co-captain was named East Atlantic Gymnastics League CoSpeciali­st of theWeek (Feb. 8). It was the fourth time this season that she has won or shared the honor. She captured the floor exercise, tying her careerhigh with a score of 9.900, finished second in vault (9.875) and tied for sixth on uneven bars (9.800) to lead the No. 14 Colonials to victories over NewHampshi­re, Towson and Ball State on Feb. 5 in Washington, D.C. to go 11-0 on the season.
