Police arrest pair for burglary
Police announced they have arrested two men in connection to a burglary that occurred in the borough in mid-February.
Charles Carter, 28, of Clementon, N.J., and Grover Crandall, 28, of Philadelphia, have been charged for a burglary that occurred at a home that was under construction.
According to police, a resident of North Fifth Street saw twomen illegally park in front of her home on Feb. 17. One man stayed in the vehicle and kept the engine running while the other was seen going into a neighbor’s home that was being renovated after a fire, police said.
When the woman confronted one of the men, he stated that they were hired to “clean up the trash” at her neighbor’s home. After she notified police, the man she spoke to entered the home. Shortly after, the man who originally entered the house was seen leaving with a box and bag. The two men then drove off, according to police.
The woman provided police with a description of the men, their vehicle and the direction in which they left.
Police said they stopped the vehicle on Sixth Avenue and the driver provided a false identification to officers. The witness later positively identified the men and they were taken into custody.
Police identified Carter as the driver of the vehicle and Crandall as the passenger. Through an investigation, police learned that neither men had permission to be inside the house and found that the pair had removed copper pipes from inside.
Both men have been charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen property. Carter was additionally chargedwith false identification to law enforce- ment. They were arraigned on Feb. 18 before District Judge Patricia Zaffarano and are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 8 before District Judge Walter F. Gadzicki.
