Area students compete in Tech Bowl

- By Digital First Media staff

Area technical high schools faced off earlier this month in a head-to-head knowledge showdown.

On Thursday Feb. 2, teams from Technical College High School campuses at Brandywine, Pickering and Pennock’s Bridge competed in the quiz-bowl event, answering questions related to the school’s health career pathways, carpentry and early childhood care and education programs. The quiz also included questions on current events.

In the end, the Pickering campus was crowned the winner of the Tech Bowl. The team won the health career pathways, carpentry and current events rounds while Pennock’s Bridge won the trophy in the early childhood care and education category.

“The students stayed after school and spent their lunches in my room and we reviewed and practiced for about two weeks,” said Pickering Coach, Healther Mulford. “They were so dedicated that we even held a Sunday practice at my house.”

The Tech Bowl not only inspires friendly competition among the campuses but also allowed student to prepare for the NOCTI exam.

“Every year students look forward for the chance at winning one of the trophies to display on our campus,” said Picker assistant principal RichardWeber. “We are so proud of our program winners and we thank all the participants who made Tech Bowl a winning experience for everyone.”
