McLaughlin helps West Chester to 4th place at PSACs

Caroline McLaughlin led the West Chester women’s team to a fourth place finish at the PSAC Outdoor Track Championsh­ips last weekend in Bloomsburg.

The junior, a Pope John Paul II grad, ran the anchor leg on the 4x100 relay which finished first with a time of 47.28 and the 4x400 relay which finished second with a time of 3:52.06. She also finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.99 to help the Golden Rams total 66.5 points.

On April 15, McLaughlin captured the 400 hurdles at the Chester Quarry Classic with a time of 1:01.43 which was a personal record and a NCAA Division II provisiona­l mark. And, she set a PR winning the 400-meter dash in 57.88 in the Widener Invitation­al on April 22.

“Caroline is obviously having a heck of a season,” coach John Kilgore said. “She’s one heck of a competitor and person in general and has been great to coach. She opened the outdoor season with a huge PR (1:02.59 at the West Chester Classic on April 8) and our school record in the 400 hurdles and then at the Chester race improved her PR with a new school record. And, her 400 at Widener is the ninth-best time in school history.”

McLaughlin will now wait and see is she gets a bid to the NCAA meet set forMay 25-27 inBradento­n, Fla. If not, she’ll start training for her final season with the Golden Rams.

“We have some high expectatio­ns for Caroline for her senior season,” Kilgore said. The Eastern senior was named to the MAC Freedom first team in women’s lacrosse after wrapping up her college career by scoring 56 goals with 29 assists for 85 points for the Eagles, who finished 5-11 overall and 3-4 in league play. She also had 38 ground balls, a teamhigh 58 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers. Charlebois scored at least one point in every game and had seven goals and five assists for 12 points in a 1716 victory over Houghton on April 10 and six goals in an 18-16 triumph over Delaware Valley on April 29. In 67 career games, she scored 200 goals and had 57 assists for 257 points with 140 ground balls, 175 draw controls and 57 caused turnovers.

The senior defender broke the single-season caused turnover record for the 7-9 Alvernia women’s lacrosse team this past spring season. She finished with 28 and ended her career with 88. A team captain, she also had 41 ground balls and two draw controls and added a goal and three assists. Her performanc­e earned her MAC Commonweal­th second teamhonors. Stover was a two-time captain on the women’s soccer team and ended up being the team’s all-time career assist leader with 14.

The sophomore was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference second teamfor her efforts with the Gwynedd Mercy softball team. The right-handed pitcher had a 10-7 record and a save with a 4.27 earned run average with 13 complete games. She worked 96.2 innings and gave up 151 hits and 86 runs, 59 earned, with 22 walks and 55 strikeouts. Morales also hit .265 (30for-111) with 23 runs scored. The Griffins finished 17-18 and were beaten 4-2 by Im- maculata in the first round of the league playoffs on May 3.

The junior hit .292 for the Delaware Valley baseball teamwhich finished the season with a 1518 overall record and a 6-15 mark inMAC Freedompla­y. The first baseman/designated hitter had 19 hits in 65 at-bats with three doubles, seven RBIs and 11 runs scored. He also walked 13 times and when he played in the field didn’t make an error on 56 chances. In a 1615 non-league victory over John Jay on May 2, Beyer had a hit and four walks and scored three times.

The junior finished second in the 100 meter dash at the PSAC Outdoor Track Championsh­ips to become the first Kutztown sprinter to finish in the top three in that event since 2005. His time was 10.79. Lindsay also finished sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.76 as the Golden Bears finished seventh out of 14 teams with 53.5 points. Sophomore Brandon Leacraft (Spring-Ford) picked up a point by finishing eighth in the javelin throwwith a toss of 184 feet, 8 inches.

The 6-foot2, 210-pound right-hander pitched in 12 games with four starts for theUScienc­es baseball team, the Devils finishing 13-27 overall and 6-16 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Szpindor posted a 1-2 record working 29.2 innings and giving up 41 hits and 27 runs, 22 earned, with 20 walks and 18 strikeouts. He picked up his victory with 1.2 innings of relief in a 6-4 victory over Mercy on March 8 and pitched three innings of relief, giving up three hits and no runs in a 6-3 triumph over Concordia (N.Y.) on April 29.
