Local team to compete in 8-Ball tournament in Las Vegas
Problem Child will be leaving Phoenixville in the comingweeks to battle for $25,000 first-place prize money at the 2017 APA 8-Ball World Championship, conducted by the American Poolplayers Association (APA).
“I wished for this trip since I was 14 years old.”
Problem Child will be joining more than 700 other qualified teams from North America that will be traveling to the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, Aug. 14-19, to compete for the world title and a portion of more than $1 million in guaranteed prize money.
Problem Child are members of the APA Pool League and participate in weekly league play at Gallaghers Tavern in Phoenixville. Team members include: Dan Green, Nicholas Shumate, Anthony Gertenitch, Guillermo Constanza, Ralph Valenteen, Jr., Chris Noecker, Vicky Kaminsky and Laura Baker.
The APA, based in Lake Saint Louis, Mo., sanctions the world’s largest amateur pool league, known as the APA Pool League throughout the United States and as the Canadian Pool League in Canada. More than 250,000 members compete in weekly 8-Ball and 9-Ball League play. The APA is generally recognized as the Governing Body of Amateur Pool, having established the official rules, championships, formats and handicap systems for the sport of amateur billiards.
The APA produces three major tournaments each year—the APA World Pool Championships, the APA Poolplayer Championships and the U.S. Amateur Championship—that, together, pay out nearly $1.5 Million in cash and prizes annually. In 2010, the APA World Pool Championships were recognized by GuinnessWorld Records as the “world’s largest pool tournament.”
The APA and its Championships are sponsored by PoolDawg, Aramith and Action Cues.
