Organizati­on announces $193K in grants

WESTGOSHEN» The Chester County Fund for Women and Girls Grants Allocation Committee has awarded $193,000 in grants to 20 nonprofit agencies serving the needs of women and girls throughout Chester County.

With a population of over 500,000, representa­tives said the needs of women, girls and families are just as diverse as the people and communitie­s. They added that to date, Chester County Fund for Women and Girls (CCFWG) has directed nearly $3 million to 71 nonprofit agencies to strategica­lly address persisting needs, including homelessne­ss, domestic violence and women’s health. Through its inclusive and community-driven process, Grants Allocation Committee (GAC) members said it ensures that CCFWG continues to lead and unite the community through philanthro­py and advocacy to ensure that women and girls have resources and opportunit­ies to thrive.

The grant recipients this year include:

Domestic Violence Center of Chester County, Inc. received $13,500 for education and advocacy efforts to prevent and reduce domestic violence; Family Promise of Southern Chester County received $13,500 for children and families experienci­ng homelessne­ss; Friends Associatio­n for the Care and Protection of Children received $10,000 for housing for 175 homeless women and girls; Home of the Sparrow received $13,500 for housing and supportive services for homeless and low-income women; Parkesburg Point received $8,000 for girls leadership programmin­g; Chester County Opportunit­ies Industrial­ization Center (OIC) received $7,500 for its Certified Nurse Assistant program; Coatesvill­e Youth Initiative received $14,000 for service-oriented programmin­g for youth; Interfaith Housing Assistance Corporatio­n of Chester County received $10,000 for case management and financial assistance for single mothers; Mom’s House received $9,500 for daycare services for low-income mothers; Volunteer English Program received $5,000 for tutoring and economic opportunit­ies supporting lowincome women; Wings for Success received $7,500 for employment support and guidance for low-income women; YoungMoms received $5,000 for a case management and mentoring program for young mothers; Bournelyf Special Camp received $5,000 for programmin­g for local young women with special needs; Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County received $7,500 for services provided to female victims of rape and sexual assault; Community Volunteers in Medicine received $14,000 for health tests provided to women; Gateway Horseworks received $15,000 for an equine therapy program for women after release from incarcerat­ion; La Comunidad Hispana received $10,000 for a women’s health program for immigrants and low-income women; Maternal and Child Health Consortium of Chester County received $7,500 for social support and education services for low-income pregnant women, new mothers and their children; Planned Parenthood of Southeaste­rn Pennsylvan­ia received $8,000 for well woman exams for 55 Coatesvill­e women on Medicaid; and Unite for Her received $9,000 for providing breast cancer patients with education and compliment­ary therapies.

The Chester County Fund for Women and Girls is a grantmakin­g and education foundation dedicated to addressing the needs of women and girls in the county. For more than 20 years, CCFWG has raised awareness about the critical needs of women and girls, and has awarded more than $2.8 million to 71 nonprofit organizati­ons.
