Records fall at championships
Swimming
The Tri-County Swim League ended the season recently with the Senior Championships hosted by North End Swim Club, the B Championships hosted by Upper Perkiomen YMCA Tuesday, July 25, and the A Championships hosted by Baker Park (Phoenixville YMCA outdoor pool) Wednesday, July 26.
Eight teams comprise the league: Baker Park, Bellewood CC, Hillside, Laurelwood, Nine Oaks, North End, Skippack, and Upper Perk YMCA.
At the Senior champs, the 13-14 and the 15-18 year-olds from the eight teams competed by age group for the top eight places. Out of 27 events, 17 events had records broken, most notably:
13-14 Boys 200 Meter Medley relay – Hillside (Chris Guiliano, Nolan Benner, Sean Lyman, Noah Vivian) crushed the championship, league, and pool records in 1:59.31
15-18 Girls 200 Meter Medley relay – Baker Park (Alex Zelinske, Maddie Cooke, Morgan Hansen, Olivia Giampietro) broke championship, league, and pool records in 2:05.06
13-14 Boys 50Meter Backstroke – Jack Christian, Baker Park, broke all three records, held by Patrick Schirk since 2002, in 27.57
15-18 Boys 100 Meter Breaststroke – Kyle Kovalenko, Upper Perk, broke all three records, held by Mitchell Scherer since 2008, in 1:07.78
13-14 Boys 50 Meter Butterfly – Dalton Fink, Laurelwood, broke all three records in 27.67
13-14 Boys 100Meter IM – Chris Guiliano, Hillside, annihilated all three records in 1:01.60

Baseball
The Upper Providence Little League 12U team won the Pa. state title by defeating North Allegheny by a score of 18-5 on July 29 at Fleetville, Pa. The team, which previously won the district 27 and section 8 championships, now advances to the Mid-Atlantic Regionals in Bristol, Conn., which begins August 6. Upper Providencemeets Delaware in the opening round.

Phoenixville hosted its annual Orange Crush tennis tournament last week from July 24-28.
