Phoenix FictionWriters: Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Group meets second Thursday and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 9p.m. in the library’s Harrop Room. Led by Eric Parmer, offering local writers education, empowerment and constructive criticism. Writers ask questions about the writing process, read work out loud and receive/offer input on material read. Free and open to public. Legal Outreach Clinic: A free legal clinic will be offered at Phoenixville Public Library on the first Thursday of the month from 5to 7:30p.m. Ian J. Michener, Esq. of Rick Linn, LLC offers this Phoenixville Legal Outreach Clinic, providing information, counseling, and advocacy in various areas of law, including family law, trusts & estates, criminal defense, landlord-tenant law, and legal issues facing small businesses. Attendees receive a free 20-minute consultation with an attorney, who will provide counseling and access to legal resources as needed. Consultations are provided on a first-come, first served basis. Phoenixville Tech Group: The Phoenixville Tech Group holds weekly morning meetings at Phoenixville Public Library on Mondays from 10a.m. to noon, and monthly evening meetings on the third Thursday of the month from 7to 8:30p.m. The Phoenixville Tech Group brings technology users together to share knowledge and experience. We are particularly interested in helping those who have limited or no experience with computers. Topics that can be addressed include: digital cameras, cell phones, tablets, cable TV & FiOS, GPS, computer and printer recommendations, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, email, software installation, computer security, speeding up a sluggish computer, and more. Downsizing or Discarding — Are You Throwing Away Treasure?”: Phoenixville Public Library will present “Downsizing or Discarding: Are You Throwing Away Treasure?” Thursday, Oct. 26, from 7to 8:30p.m. This lively and entertaining programwill feature certified appraisers and auctioneers Leon Castner from National Appraisal Consultants and Brent Souder from Alderfer Auction. Together, they will give a short presentation on what’s hot and what’s not in the world of antiques and collectibles and what you should throw away or keep. RealWorld Real Estate — Practical Tips for Buying and Selling: Phoenixville Public Library will host a free seminar, “Real World Real Estate: Practical Tips for Buying and Selling,” Saturday, Oct. 28, from 2to 3p.m. Caleb Knecht, lead listing specialist with Keller Williams Real Estate, will be the presenter. In this seminar, you will learn: whether to sell your house first and then buy or buy and then sell; how to choose a Realtor; what to do to prep your house for sale for a good return on investment; and one simple strategy to build wealth through real estate. Microsoft Office & More!: Learn Microsoft’s Office 2013 programs and more in a series of free classes on selected Saturdays through December. IT professional Ernie Tidball is the instructor. The class schedule is as follows: Oct. 28(Outlook); Nov. 4(Word Intermediate); Nov. 18(Excel Advanced); Nov. 25 (Publisher Basic); Dec. 2(Cyber Security). Class time is 10a.m. to noon in the Library’s Community Education Room. Students may bring their own laptops with Office 2013installed (Office not needed for Facebook and Cyber Security classes) and should bring a USB drive if they wish to save their work. Basic knowledge of computers and the ability to use a keyboard and mouse are required. Space is limited. Students may register for one or any combination of classes. When registering, indicate if you will be bringing a laptop. Chesco Pops Present “Halloween Magic” Concert: The Checo Pops will perform Sunday, Oct. 29, at 3p.m. at Phoenixville Area Middle School, 1392 Gay St., Phoenixville. Maestro Joe Gehring will lead the Pops in “Halloween Magic,” featuring music from movies like “Peter Pan,” “E.T.,” “Indiana Jones” and “Beetlejuice.” Kids in costume can come up on stage to experience some magical surprises. Phoenixville Public Library is once again partnering with the Pops, and a percentage of ticket sales will be donated to the library. Tickets are $20for adults, $15for seniors (60+) and free for students and children with a suggested donation of $5per ticket. Tickets are available at the door and online at chescopops.org. Climate Change Presentation: Phoenixville Public Library will host a free program on climate change and ways to prevent its adverse impacts Monday, Oct. 30, at 7p.m. Henry Alexander of Citizens’ Climate Change Lobby will be the speaker. In this program, attendees will learn about: the history of the placement of fossil fuels in the Carboniferous Period and the use of these fuels during the Industrial Revolution; the cause of recent climate change and how it is related to manmade greenhouse gases; reductions in greenhouse gas emissions needed to prevent excessive atmospheric warming and the technological methods and economic drivers needed to
