Three seek two open seats for Schuylkill supervisor

SCHUYLKILL TWP. » Two open seats on the board of supervisors are being sought by three candidates in the Nov. 7 election.

Incumbent Susan Guerette captured both a Democratic and Republican line in the spring primary.

Democrat Mark Donovan and Republican Bob Cooney are the two other candidates.

In his candidate response, Donovan, 29, wrote “if we are to maintain our place as a historic and scenic buffer between Phoenixville’s vibrant downtown and the relative tranquility of Valley Forge National Historic Park just down the road, it will take change in leadership. Donovan added that “public discussions frequently disregard the concerns of residents and some of the current supervisors are outright disrespectful when opposing viewpoints are

raised. I believe that I can be a proactive, rather than reactive, voice for the township residents’ interests.”

onovan is a member of Schuylkill Township Planning Commission, and a former employee with US EPA,

where he “worked to protect air quality for residents in EPA Region 3” which oversees Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and Washington, D.C.

“My aim is to curtail the rapid development in.our region through both pre-emptive code modifications as well as voting no on development that threatens the

integrity of our township comprehensive plan,” Donvan wrote.

“For example, rezoning for the sake of some tax revenue at the expense of the community’s current, invested residents is wholly unacceptable,” he added.

Neither Guerette nor Cooney submitted a candidate questionnaire response.
