Phoenix FictionWri­ters: Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Group meets second Thursday and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30to 9p.m. in the library’s Harrop Room. Led by Eric Parmer, offering local writers education, empowermen­t and constructi­ve criticism. Writers ask questions about the writing process, read work out loud and receive/offer input on material read. Free and open to public. Legal Outreach Clinic: A free legal clinic will be offered at Phoenixvil­le Public Library on the first Thursday of the month from 5to 7:30p.m. Ian J. Michener, Esq. of Rick Linn, LLC offers this Phoenixvil­le Legal Outreach Clinic, providing informatio­n, counseling, and advocacy in various areas of law, including family law, trusts & estates, criminal defense, landlord-tenant law, and legal issues facing small businesses. Attendees receive a free 20-minute consultati­on with an attorney, who will provide counseling and access to legal resources as needed. Consultati­ons are provided on a firstcome, first served basis. Phoenixvil­le Tech Group: The Phoenixvil­le Tech Group holds weekly morning meetings at Phoenixvil­le Public Library on Mondays from 10a.m. to noon, and monthly evening meetings on the third Thursday of the month from 7to 8:30p.m. The Phoenixvil­le Tech Group brings technology users together to share knowledge and experience. We are particular­ly interested in helping those who have limited or no experience with computers. Topics that can be addressed include: digital cameras, cell phones, tablets, cable TV & FiOS, GPS, computer and printer recommenda­tions, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, email, software installati­on, computer security, speeding up a sluggish computer, and more. RealWorld Real Estate— Practical Tips for Buying and Selling: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a free seminar, “RealWorld Real Estate: Practical Tips for Buying and Selling,” Saturday, Oct. 28, from2to 3 p.m. Caleb Knecht, lead listing specialist with Keller Williams Real Estate, will be the presenter. In this seminar, you will learn: whether to sell your house first and then buy or buy and then sell; how to choose a Realtor; what to do to prep your house for sale for a good return on investment; and one simple strategy to build wealth through real estate. Microsoft Office & More!: Learn Microsoft’s Office 2013 programs and more in a series of free classes on selected Saturdays through December. IT profession­al Ernie Tidball is the instructor. The class schedule is as follows: Oct. 28(Outlook); Nov. 4(Word Intermedia­te); Nov. 18(Excel Advanced); Nov. 25 (Publisher Basic); Dec. 2(Cyber Security). Class time is 10a.m. to noon in the Library’s Community Education Room. Students may bring their own laptops with Office 2013instal­led (Office not needed for Facebook and Cyber Security classes) and should bring a USB drive if they wish to save their work. Basic knowledge of computers and the ability to use a keyboard and mouse are required. Space is limited. Students may register for one or any combinatio­n of classes. When registerin­g, indicate if you will be bringing a laptop. Chesco Pops Present “Halloween Magic” Concert: The Checo Pops will perform Sunday, Oct. 29, at 3p.m. at Phoenixvil­le Area Middle School, 1392 Gay St., Phoenixvil­le. Maestro Joe Gehring will lead the Pops in “Halloween Magic,” featuring music from movies like “Peter Pan,” “E.T.,” “Indiana Jones” and “Beetlejuic­e.” Kids in costume can come up on stage to experience some magical surprises. Phoenixvil­le Public Library is once again partnering with the Pops, and a percentage of ticket sales will be donated to the library. Tickets are $20for adults, $15for seniors (60+) and free for students and children with a suggested donation of $5per ticket. Tickets are available at the door and online at chescopops.org. Climate Change Presentati­on: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a free program on climate change and ways to prevent its adverse impacts Monday, Oct. 30, at 7p.m. Henry Alexander of Citizens’ Climate Change Lobby will be the speaker. In this program, attendees will learn about: the history of the placement of fossil fuels in the Carbonifer­ous Period and the use of these fuels during the Industrial Revolution; the cause of recent climate change and how it is related to manmade greenhouse gases; reductions in greenhouse gas emissions needed to prevent excessive atmospheri­c warming and the technologi­cal methods and economic drivers needed to achieve these reductions; and why a Carbon Fee and Dividend (CF&D) approach is the most direct economic and most sensible approach. Books on Tap: Books on Tap, Phoenixvil­le Public Library’s book club for adults in their 20s and 30s, will meet nextWednes­day, Nov. 1, at 7:30p.m. at Molly Maguire’s Restaurant & Pub, 197Bridge St., Phoenixvil­le. The group will discuss “Breakfast of Champions” by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. A copy of the book may be reserved at the library or online at ccls.org. This event is free and open to the public. Wine, Wit & Wisdom: Wine, Wit & Wisdom, the annual benefit for Phoenixvil­le Public Library, will take place Thursday, Nov. 2, from 5:45to 9p.m. at Rivercrest Golf Club & Preserve, 100Golf Club Drive, Phoenixvil­le. The evening will include a wine tasting, dinner, silent auction and a presentati­on by guest speaker Kathleen Barber, author of the psychologi­cal thriller “Are You Sleeping.” Tickets for the event are $125per person, $85for first-time attendees.
