Spring-Ford students get ‘Grillebration’
Students rewarded for donating over 1,000 pairs of shoes
Spring-Ford School District was looking positively pink Friday as they celebrated an enormous success.
Students in the fifth, sixth and seventh grades were treated to a “Grillebration” Friday to celebrate their efforts in collecting thousands of pairs of shoes for victims of Hurricane Harvey. Spring-Ford Area School District partnered with New Balance, Susan G. Komen Philadelphia and Dietz & Watson to collect a total of 1,438 pairs of shoes for the “Soles with a Heart” campaign. While Dietz & Watson donated hundreds of pairs of shoes in addition to the students’ donations, New Balance Cherry Hill packaged and shipped the shoes to communities affected by the hurricanes.
Students donned pink outfits Friday to show their support for breast cancer awareness as they were rewarded for their efforts with free, freshly grilled hot dogs. Students also received “PinkWarrior” scarves as a thank you for their work.
In addition to celebrating the students’ donations, Susan G. Komen Philadelphia CEO Elaine I. Grobman, Geoff Rabinowitz, president of New Balance South Jersey, and Steve Riley, communications and partnership manager for Dietz & Watson, all made an appearance to thank the students personally. A community teamparticipates each year in the Komen Philadelphia Race for a Cure and utilizes the “Pretty in Pig” program sponsored by Dietz & Watson. In the past three years, students, faculty and parents have raised more than $18,100 to support Komen Philadelphia’s work.
