Democrats win 3 seats in U. Providence

Democrats won in three mid-county townships in Tuesday’s elections, while the Skippack supervisor­s’ board remained solidly in Republican hands.

• In Upper Providence, the newly expanded board of supervisor­s will have a distinctly more Democratic feel.

There were two races, with four candidates seeking two seats with six-year terms and two candidates seeking a single seat with a four-year term.

In the race for the sixyear seats, incumbent Republican Supervisor Lisa Mossie and running mate Paul Newlin were defeated by Democrats John Pearson and Laurie Higgins.

According to unofficial results, Higgins was the top vote-getter with 2,254 votes, followed by Pearson, who won 2,228 votes.

Mossie took 1,841 votes whileNewli­n earned 1,794.

In the race for the seat with the four-year term, Democrat Helene Calci won 2,129 votes, defeating her Republican opponent Kevin Holohan, who took in 1,926 votes, unofficial results show.

Julie Mullin was unopposed for tax collector and Jennifer Moore, unopposed for township auditor.

• In Lower Frederick Township, incumbent Republican Ron Kerwood was rejected by voters in favor of Democrat Marla Hexter.

According to unofficial results, Hexter won more than 60 percent of the vote, 670 votes to Kerwood’s 438 out of 1,108 votes cast.

Republican Josh Embree was unopposed for tax collector and Democrat Jennifer Bryan was unopposed for township auditor.

• In Limerick, Democrat Patrick Morroney won the single open seat on the board of supervisor­s Tuesday by 91 votes out of more than 3,000 cast.

According to unofficial results, Morroney defeated Republican Michael Lane by a total of 1,576 votes to 1,485 for Lane.

Republican Ryan Wall was unopposed for the post of tax collector.

Democrat Diana Uhia was unopposed for the post of township auditor.

• In SkippackTo­wnship, Republican­s maintained their dominance, with Republican­s Nick Fountain and Franco D’Angelo coming out on top Tuesday night in the race for the two open seats on the board of supervisor­s.

According to unofficial results, Fountain won 1,514 votes andD’Angelo took in 1,465.

Democrats Karen Lynch and David Adams took in 1,179 and 1,106 respective­ly.

Lynch also lost her bid for township auditor, collecting 1,203 votes to the 1,435 taken in by Republican Paul Lapotin.

Republican Laurie Augustine was unopposed in the tax collector election.
