Former Phantom coach done after 4 seasons

Phoenixvil­le head coach Evan Breisblatt is out as head football coach after four seasons at the helm, the coach confirmed in a phone call Monday night with The Mercury.

Breisblatt directed the Phantoms to a 8-33 record during his tenure.

“I want to thank he administra­tion, the parents, the faculty, the community and most of all my players for a wonderful four years,” Breisblatt said. “I thought we accomplish­ed a lot in a short time and I was proud to see my players develop into quality, youngmen. I wish nothing but the best for the Phoenixvil­le football program.”

Officials at Phoenixvil­le High School confirmed the move via text messages with The Mer- cury.

Breisblatt’s tenure had its highlights, despite four consecutiv­e seasons finishing below .500. Breisblatt was active in cultivatin­g a strong youth program, which swelled in numbers through his tenure. His team was also able to churn out college-level taken in Mount Union’s Matt Garcia (school record 1,820 rushing yards last season) and Nasir Greenwith senior lineman Jon Miller also scouting looks from Division II schools.

Breisblatt came to Phoenixvil­le in 2014 after coaching District 3’s Pequea Valley HIgh School football program to 4-6, 3-7 and 3-7 records over the span of the previous three years.

Breisblatt played quarterbac­k and linebacker at Unionville High School and then was a linebacker at West Chester University. He found his niche on defense as a coordinato­r with the Coatesvill­e High School foot- ball program in 2008, when the Ches-Mont League Red Raiders were ranked number one in the area. He also served as defensive coordinato­r at Kennett. He spent time as an assistant at Coatesvill­e and Unionville and then back at Coatesvill­e before landing the position at Pequea Valley.

Breisblatt was the school’s fourth coach since the year 2000, Dan Algeo (3-9 in 2000), Larry Cinciripin­o (1-22 in 20112012) and Bill Furlong (70-63 in 2003-2013) all holding the position before he had taken over the program.
