Phoenix FictionWriters: Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Group meets second Thursday and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30to 9p.m. in the library’s Harrop Room. Led by Eric Parmer, offering local writers education, empowerment and constructive criticism. Writers ask questions about the writing process, read work out loud and receive/offer input on material read. Free and open to public. Legal Outreach Clinic: A free legal clinic will be offered at Phoenixville Public Library on the first Thursday of the month from 5to 7:30p.m. Ian J. Michener, Esq. of Rick Linn, LLC offers this Phoenixville Legal Outreach Clinic, providing information, counseling, and advocacy in various areas of law, including family law, trusts & estates, criminal defense, landlord-tenant law, and legal issues facing small businesses. Attendees receive a free 20-minute consultation with an attorney, who will provide counseling and access to legal resources as needed. Consultations are provided on a first-come, first served basis. Phoenixville Tech Group: The Phoenixville Tech Group holds weekly morning meetings at Phoenixville Public Library on Mondays from 10a.m. to noon, and monthly evening meetings on the third Thursday of the month from 7to 8:30p.m. The Phoenixville Tech Group brings technology users together to share knowledge and experience. We are particularly interested in helping those who have limited or no experience with computers. Topics that can be addressed include: digital cameras, cell phones, tablets, cable TV & FiOS, GPS, computer and printer recommendations, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, email, software installation, computer security, speeding up a sluggish computer, and more. Microsoft Office & More!: Learn Microsoft’s Office 2013programs and more in a series of free classes on selected Saturdays through December. IT professional Ernie Tidball is the instructor. The class schedule is as follows: Dec. 2 (Cyber Security). Class time is 10 a.m. to noon in the Library’s Community Education Room. Students may bring their own laptops with Office 2013installed (Office not needed for Facebook and Cyber Security classes) and should bring a USB drive if they wish to save their work. Basic knowledge of computers and the ability to use a keyboard and mouse are required. Space is limited. Students may register for one or any combination of classes. When registering, indicate if you will be bringing a laptop. Phoenix Book Club: The Phoenix Book Club will meet next Monday, Dec. 4, from 7to 8:30p.m. at Phoenixville Public Library. AARP Smart Driver Two-Day Class: Phoenixville Public Library will host the AARP Smart Driver Course Thursday, Dec. 7, and Friday, Dec. 8, from 10a.m. to p.m. both days. This two-day course offers an opportunity to learn how to drive more efficiently and safely. The course contains up-todate information about changes in ourselves, our vehicles and our roads. Plus, you may be eligible to receive an insurance discount upon completing the course, so consult your insurance agent for details. AARP membership is not required to take the course, and there are no tests to pass. Cost is $15for AARP members and $20for non-members, check or money order only, payable to AARP Smart Driver. A 19th Century Christmastide: Phoenixville Public Library will present “A 19th Century Christmastide” with performer/lecturer Rick Spencer Thursday, Dec. 7, at 7p.m.. Historical musician Rick Spencer will present a selection of Christmas songs that were popular at the end of the 1800s and are almost universally recognizable. He will offer commentary on the background and origins of the songs and the evolution of America’s 19th century Christmas traditions. He will accompany the songs on guitar, banjo, mandolin, concertina and Appalachian dulcimer. Audience members will be welcome to sing along. This event is free and open to the public. APPRISE Medicare Open Enrollment Assistance: Free, unbiased, confidential appointments with a certified APPRISE counselor will be available at Phoenixville Public Library during Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period. Philadelphia’s Mummers: Join Broadcast Pioneer, Mummers broadcaster and author Steve Highsmith for an evening of insight into Philadelphia’s Mummers tradition Monday, Dec. 11, at 7p.m. at Phoenixville Public Library. Highsmith, author of “Philadelphia Mummers” published by Arcadia Publishing in 2017, will discuss the evolution of the Mummers and what to watch for at the parade on New Year’s Day. Soap Making Class: Come, get crafty and create your own handmade soap at Phoenixville Public Library Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 7 to 8p.m. Sondra Gervasi is the craft instructor. To celebrate, Phoenixville Public Library is throwing a coloring and movie viewing party for fans of all ages on Thursday, Dec. 14, at 6p.m. Take a break from holiday stress and color characters and scenes from your favorite StarWars film while watching “Episode VII: The Force Awakens” (2015, PG-13, 136minutes) on our big screen.
