Phoenix FictionWri­ters: Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Group meets second Thursday and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30to 9p.m. in the library’s Harrop Room. Led by Eric Parmer, offering local writers education, empowermen­t and constructi­ve criticism. Writers ask questions about the writing process, read work out loud and receive/offer input on material read. Free and open to public. Legal Outreach Clinic: A free legal clinic will be offered at Phoenixvil­le Public Library on the first Thursday of the month from 5to 7:30p.m. Ian J. Michener, Esq. of Rick Linn, LLC offers this Phoenixvil­le Legal Outreach Clinic, providing informatio­n, counseling, and advocacy in various areas of law, including family law, trusts & estates, criminal defense, landlord-tenant law, and legal issues facing small businesses. Attendees receive a free 20-minute consultati­on with an attorney, who will provide counseling and access to legal resources as needed. Phoenixvil­le Tech Group: The Phoenixvil­le Tech Group holds weekly morning meetings at Phoenixvil­le Public Library on Mondays from 10a.m. to noon, and monthly evening meetings on the third Thursday of the month from 7to 8:30p.m. The Phoenixvil­le Tech Group brings technology users together to share knowledge and experience. We are particular­ly interested in helping those who have limited or no experience with computers. Topics that can be addressed include: digital cameras, cell phones, tablets, cable TV & FiOS, GPS, computer and printer recommenda­tions, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, email, software installati­on, computer security, speeding up a sluggish computer, and more. Microsoft Office & More!: Learn Microsoft’s Office 2013progra­ms and more in a series of free classes on selected Saturdays through December. IT profession­al Ernie Tidball is the instructor. The class schedule is as follows: Dec. 2 (Cyber Security). Class time is 10 a.m. to noon in the Library’s Community Education Room. Students may bring their own laptops with Office 2013instal­led (Office not needed for Facebook and Cyber Security classes) and should bring a USB drive if they wish to save their work. Basic knowledge of computers and the ability to use a keyboard and mouse are required. Space is limited. Students may register for one or any combinatio­n of classes. When registerin­g, indicate if you will be bringing a laptop. Phoenix Book Club: The Phoenix Book Club will meet next Monday, Dec. 4, from 7to 8:30p.m. at Phoenixvil­le Public Library. Make Your Own Acrylic Painting: Local artist Amy Hathaway will return to Phoenixvil­le Public Library to lead another stepby-step acrylic painting class Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 6:30to 8:30p.m. Cost of the class is $15, which includes a 16-by-20-inch canvas and all the supplies. AARP Smart Driver Two-Day Class: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host the AARP Smart Driver Course Thursday, Dec. 7, and Friday, Dec. 8, from 10a.m. to p.m. both days. This two-day course offers an opportunit­y to learn how to drive more efficientl­y and safely. The course contains up-todate informatio­n about changes in ourselves, our vehicles and our roads. Plus, you may be eligible to receive an insurance discount upon completing the course, so consult your insurance agent for details. AARP membership is not required to take the course, and there are no tests to pass. Cost is $15for AARP members and $20for non-members, check or money order only, payable to AARP Smart Driver. A 19th Century Christmast­ide: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will present “A 19th Century Christmast­ide” with performer/lecturer Rick Spencer Thursday, Dec. 7, at 7p.m.. Historical musician Rick Spencer will present a selection of Christmas songs that were popular at the end of the 1800s and are almost universall­y recognizab­le. He will offer commentary on the background and origins of the songs and the evolution of America’s 19th century Christmas traditions. He will accompany the songs on guitar, banjo, mandolin, concertina and Appalachia­n dulcimer. Audience members will be welcome to sing along. This event is free and open to the public. APPRISE Medicare Open Enrollment Assistance: Free, unbiased, confidenti­al appointmen­ts with a certified APPRISE counselor will be available at Phoenixvil­le Public Library during Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period. Apprise is Pennsylvan­ia’s state-run Medicare counseling program. Appointmen­ts will be available onWednesda­ys at noon, 1:30or 3p.m. through Dec. 6. This service is free and open to the public. Philadelph­ia’s Mummers: Join Broadcast Pioneer, Mummers broadcaste­r and author Steve Highsmith for an evening of insight into Philadelph­ia’s Mummers tradition Monday, Dec. 11, at 7p.m. at Phoenixvil­le Public Library. Highsmith, author of “Philadelph­ia Mummers” published by Arcadia Publishing in 2017, will discuss the evolution of the Mummers and what to watch for at the parade on New Year’s Day. Soap Making Class: Come, get crafty and create your own handmade soap at Phoenixvil­le Public Library Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 7 to 8p.m. Sondra Gervasi is the craft instructor. To celebrate, Phoenixvil­le Public Library is throwing a coloring and movie viewing party for fans of all ages on Thursday, Dec. 14, at 6p.m. Take a break from holiday stress and color characters and scenes from your favorite StarWars film while watching “Episode VII: The Force Awakens” (2015, PG-13, 136minutes) on our big screen.
