Diaz powers Spring-Ford to win at San Diego Tournament
Nestor Diaz’s power down the stretch proved big for the SpringFord boys basketball team on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
Diaz poured on 15 fourth-quarter points to key the Rams’ 63-58 victory over Lake Stevens (Wash.) in the San Diego Surf & Slam Tournament. He finished with a game-high 24 points for the Rams.

While Ameerah Green and Mackenzie Shoemaker were leading the way with their respective 14- and 12-point efforts, Peyton Graham (10
points) and JasmineHamilton (eight) were contributing at the other end of the floor. Graham made five steals, and Hamilton four to go with her 10 rebounds.
Through their efforts, the Phantoms held UP to just 10 points in the first half and 15 after three quarters. Kayla Ramos was the only Perk player the Phantoms couldn’t stop, the junior guard hitting for a gamehigh 16 points with help from four 3-point baskets. Ebony Reddick produced a double-dou- ble to help the Pottstown girls basketball team outlast Phoenixville Thursday, Dec. 21.
Reddick complemented her game-tying 13 points with 12 rebounds, keying Pottstown’s run to an 18-7 halftime lead in this Pioneer Athletic Conference (Frontier Division) pairing. EmmyWolfel matched Reddick with 13 points of her own.
Ameerah Green was Phoenixville’s scoring leader with nine points.
Girls swimming
Erini Pappas was the Phantoms’ top individual winner in their nonleague meet with the Red
Raiders on Friday, Dec. 22.
Pappas took the 200 IM in 2:10.60, and the 100 fly in 58.86. Mary McNamara added herfirst in the diving competition (220.35 points) to Phoenixville’s totals.
Indoor track
Melissa Israel and John Zawlislak had Spring-Ford’s highest individual finishes in the Robert Burdette Indoor Classic at Lehigh University on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
Israel placed third in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet, and Zawislak also went third in the mile with a 4:40.03 clocking. The boys’ distance medley foursome of Zach
Smith, Stephen Chapman, Milan Sharma and Jacob McKenna finished second in a time 10:46.18, ranking fourth in the nation at this point in the season.
Other high finishers for the Rams in a field of 34 girls and 43 boys teams were the girls’ 4x800 relay of Julia Vledder, Brooke Donahue, Rachel Muphy and Rachel Moyer, fifth in 10:41.72; , Jordan Sigler, sixth in the 60 hurdles (10.06) and Brigitte Smith, sixth in the shot put (31-5 ½).
