OJR grad hitting her strides with Lees-McRae

Dagny Palmer is doing the job in the classroom and with the cycling team at Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C.

The freshman, from Phoenixvil­le (Owen J. Roberts), was named to the school’s President’s List earlier this month for earning a 4.0 grade point average this fall majoring in outdoor recreation manage- ment with aminor in Spanish.

Palmer is also a standout with the Bobcats’ outstandin­g Division I cycling program. She won a mountain biking cross country race during the season and recently she finished third in the South East Collegiate Conference Championsh­ips to earn a trip to the USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championsh­ips Jan. 9-14 in Reno, Nev.

“Dagny brings a lot of en- thusiasman­d experience to our team,” coach Tim Hall said when he announced Palmer’s signing prior to the season. “She provides us with some depth off-road in both CX (cyclo-cross) and MTB (mountain biking).”

Palmer, who raced with the Wildcats in the Pennsylvan­ia Interschol­astic Cycling League, is a founding member of the Owen J. Roberts Mountain Biking Team. She also raced with Team Bikesport by Sly Fox Brewing Company in Pottstown. MATT GNIAS (SPRING-FORD)

» The sophomore guard is having a standout season with the Muhlenberg men’s basketball team, the Mules 2-7 overall and 1-3 in Centennial Conference play after a 71-67 nonleague loss to DeSales on Dec. 9. Gnias had 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the game. He leads the Mules in scoring (12.7),

assists (47) and steals (14). He had a double-double with 25 points and 10 assists, both career highs, in a 104-99 loss to Misericord­ia on Nov. 18 and 14 points and nine assists in an 8879 victory over Haverford on Dec. 9.

The junior has a 15-3 record competing at 184 pounds with the York wrestling team. He has two pins, two major decisions and two technical falls and has lifted his career record to 44-22. Krauss went 4-0 to capture the 184 pound crown in the season-opening Monarch Invitation­al onNov. 4 in Wilkes-Barre. It was his first college championsh­ip. He finished third at the Ursinus Fall Brawl on Nov. 13 in Collegevil­le and fourth in the New Standard Corp. Invitation­al on Dec. 2 in York.
