Phoenix Fiction Writers: Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Michener, Esq. of Rick Linn, LLC offers this Phoenixvil­le Legal Outreach Clinic, providing informatio­n, counseling, and advocacy in various areas of law, including family law, trusts & estates, criminal defense, landlord-tenant law, and legal issues facing small businesses. Attendees receive a free 20-minute consultati­on with an attorney, who will provide counseling and access to legal resources as needed. Red Rovers Presentati­on: Does your New Year’s resolution have something to do with getting up, out and moving? The Chester County Red Rovers can help. Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a free informatio­nal session on the Red Rovers Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 7p.m. Jeanne Clancy from the Chester County Library will be the presenter. The Red Rovers is a chapter of the American Volkssport Associatio­n (AVA): America’s Walking Club. Volkssport is an internatio­nal sports program that promotes personal physical fitness and good health by providing fun-filled, safe exercise in a stress-free environmen­t through self-paced walks and hikes. The walks are social events that permit walkers to explore different towns and parks on pre-planned routes. The Red Cross and You: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a free presentati­on, “The Red Cross and YOU!,” Thursday, Jan. 4at 7p.m. Ned Bloom, senior volunteer specialist with the American Red Cross, Eastern Pennsylvan­ia Region, will be the speaker. This presentati­on introduces the American Red Cross’s history, services (nationally and here in Eastern Pennsylvan­ia) and what people need to do now to be prepared in the event of an emergency at home. Also discussed will be their free smoke alarm installati­on program (available to all homeowners), volunteer opportunit­ies and more. This event is free and open to the public. Model Railroad Open House: The Schuylkill Valley Model Railroad Club will hold its annual Model Railroad Open House Saturdays and Sundays, Jan. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20and 21, from 1to 5 p.m. at 400S. Main St., Phoenixvil­le. See and hear freight and passenger trains pulled by steam or diesel engines over 700feet of track. Admission is free. Donations are accepted. Montgomery County 4-H Junior Toastmaste­rs Course: Montgomery County 4-H will partner with the Blue Bell chapter of Toastmaste­rs Internatio­nal to offer a nine-week public speaking short course for teens ages 14to 18on Saturdays from Jan. 6to March 3from 10 to 11:30a.m. at the Montgomery County 4-H Center, 1015Bridge Road, Collegevil­le. Participan­ts will work on being more comfortabl­e speaking in front of a group, correct body language, eliminatio­n of filler words, writing a great speech, constructi­ve criticism to help each other, how to run a meeting, interview skills and much more. A Night for the Lukens Family: A Night for the Lukens Family fundraiser will take place Jan. 20from 5to 9p.m. at Valley Forge Casino The fundraiser will aim to raise $200,000for the family in the wake of a tragic fire that took the lives of two young boys. All money raised through ticket sales, sponsorshi­ps and raffles will go directly to the family. The Montgomery County Hero Fund, Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office “Wheels of Justice” team, Irish Pub Children’s Foundation and the A-Team are all organizers of the fundraiser. January’s event will include food from area restaurant­s, drinks and performanc­es by Wildflower and Showtime DJ Mike Valyo. Multiple gift baskets will also be raffled off. Special guest appearance­s are being finalized and will be announced at a later date. Tickets are $30for police, firefighte­rs, military and EMS and $50for the general public. A reserved table of 10is $450. Tickets can be purchased online at montgomery­countyhero­fund.com. Donations of items for raffle baskets are also being sought.
