Perk Valley girls down Owen J. Roberts, 57-49

Game played to benefit Lukens family in Schwenksvi­lle

It was more than just a girls basketball game on Saturday, January 6.

It was a show of support for a Schwenksvi­lle area family which endured a tragic change to its livelihood almost one month ago.

On a night showing support for the family of Bryan Lukens, Perkiomen Valley rode the combined 45-point offense of three players to a 57-49 victory over Owen J. Roberts in their Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division game.

Proceeds from the game benefited the fam- ily of Lukens, a Montgomery County sheriff’s deputy, that was devastated by a fire in the morning hours of Wednesday, Dec. 13. The family’s two boys, 11-yearold Bryan Jr. and six-yearold Parker, perished in the blaze while Lukens, his wife Tracy and daughter Soffia escaped.

Alex Blomstrom headed a trio of double-figure PV players, her 19-point effort — bolstered by a 12-for-12 showing at the foul line — matching her for game scoring honors with OJR’s Olivia LeClaire. Megan Jonassen added 16 and Taylor Hamm 10 for the Vikes, with Roberts getting 15 from Diana Rantz. SPRING-FORD 58, NORRISTOWN 42 » Abby Goodrich hit for a game-high 18 points to lead the Rams past the Eagles in their PAC Liberty Division pairing on Jan. 6.

Cassie Marte chipped in with another nine for Spring-Ford, which expanded a 35-17 halftime lead to 51-30 after three. Beyonce Collins had 18 to lead Norristown. PHOENIXVIL­LE 58, KUTZTOWN 19 » Jasmine Hamilton had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Phantoms over the Cougars in non-league action on Jan. 6.

Ameerah Green added 11 for Phoenixvil­le (6-4), which bolted to a 19-2 lead in the first quarter and was up 46-11 after three ... due in part to the Phantom defense holding Kutztown scoreless in the third. Rachael McCoach led the Cougars (4-6) with eight points. PERKIOMEN VALLEY74, POPE JOHN PAUL II 63 » Taylor Hamm had a game-high 23 points to lead the Vikings in their PAC divisional crossover victory over the Golden Panthers on Jan. 9.

Hamm’s scoring was complement­ed by Alex Blomstrom and Megan Jonassen each hitting for 17. PJP, which kept pace with PV in the second half off a 36-27 deficit, got 16 points from Elise Sylvester and 11 apiece from Kayla Mesaros and Monica Rapchinski. Lucy Olsen headed Spring-Ford’s balanced offense with nine points while Alyssa Yuan, Skylar Sullivan and Cassie Marte added eight apiece.

POPE JOHN PAUL II 26 » Tyler Strechay hit the nets for a game-high 20 points, keying the Vikings’ victory over the Golden Panthers in their PAC divisional crossover game on Jan. 9.

Strechay got all his points in the first three quarters, helping PV build a 43-23 lead going into the fourth. Dan Cirino and Julien Andrews had a respective nine and eight points to account for the bulk of PJP’s offense, which was limited to one basket in the first quarter and three points in the fourth. 10 from Sa’Vaughn Davidheise­r, as it pulled out of a 33-33 third-quarter tie. Jenkins finished with a double-double, pulling down 14 rebounds ... half Phoenixvil­le’s total for the game. SPRING-FORD 59, UPPER PERKIOMEN4­6» Robert Bobeck headed a quartet of double-figure scorers that fueled the Rams’ victory over the Indians in their PAC divisional crossover game on Jan. 9.

Bobeck hit for 15 points to help Spring-Ford pull away from its guests in a 20-8 fourth quarter. Noah Baker had 14 points, Harrison Pierce 11 and Nestor Diaz 10 to nullify the gamehigh 20 points Ryan Kendra scored for UP.

Boys swimming

BOYERTOWN 87, SPRINGFORD­83» OwenMiller was part of four first-place finishes for the Bears, touching first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.60) and 100 fly (54.08) while also anchoring both the 200medley relay (1:39.68) and 200 free relay (1:30.58) to lead his team to a PAC win over the Rams on Jan. 10. Nolan Benner was part of both relays and also picked up an individual win as he touched first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.92.

Spring-Ford’s Carson Hilliard was a triple-winner for Spring-Ford, taking firsts in the 200 free (1:51.98) and 100 free (49.16) while swimming the first leg of the 400 free relay (3:24.55). PERKIOMEN VALLEY 97, UPPERPERKI­OMEN72» Ethan Hinz andMattMar­sh were each part of three firstplace finishes in leading the Vikings past the Tribe in a PAC meet on Jan. 9.

The pair swam a leg in the 400 free relay (3:32.22) while individual­ly Hinz touched first in the 200 free (1:56.10) and the 500 free (5:11.05); Marsh finished tops in the 100 fly (56.18) and the 100 back (54.96). Kyle Kovalenko picked up a pair of individual firsts for UP, posting top times in the 200 IM (2:08.26) and the 100 breast (1:02.34).

Girls swimming

BOYERTOWN 89, SPRINGFORD 81 » The Bears’ Teresa Draves posted an individual win with a 1:04.10 in the 100 fly and also appeared in the top-finishing 200 free relay (1:41.95) and the 400 free relay (3:46.77) leading her team to a win over the Rams on Jan. 10. Gabrielle McKee was part of both relays and also took an individual first in the 200 IM (2:12.81).

Katherine Parker had a pair of top finishes for Spring-Ford, taking first in the 200 free (1:58.85) and the 100 back (1:01.21). PERKIOMEN VALLEY 94, UPPER PERKIOMEN 76 » The Vikings picked up a PAC win over the Tribe despite dropping two relays on Jan. 9.

The contingent of Elizabeth Turner, Kathryn Baker, Emily Hinz and Alyssa Marano claimed the 200 medley relay in 2:01.50. Hinz also placed first in the 100 fly (1:03.10), while Turner claimed the 100 back (1:06.48). Marano took the 50 free (25.96). UP’s Bailey McCausland swam a leg of the 400 relay (3:59.74) and claimed individual firsts in the 200 free (2:06.33) and the 100 breast (1:13.34).

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 57, PHOENIXVIL­LE 18 » The Vikings rode a six-pin output to victory over the Phantoms in their PAC divisional crossover pairing on Jan. 10.

Jakob Sterling (182), Willie Mathis (220), Gavin Euker (285), P.J. Kakos (120), Cody Jefferies (132) and Austin Rowley (138) all scored falls for PV. Phoenixvil­le got pins from Antonio Valenteen (106) and Alex Washington (160). SPRING-FORD 63, POPE JOHN PAUL II 14 » The Rams parlayed five pins and four forfeits into victory over the Golden Panthers in their PAC divisional crossover match on Jan. 10.

Ben D’Arcangelo (152), Michael Gradwell (170) Tyler LaRocca (220), Shane Reynolds (113) and Jack McGill (126) all pinned for Spring-Ford, which also got a tech-fall from Dirk Nugent at 132 and a major decision from Alex Johns (145). PJP’s points came froma pin by Matt Vulakh (106) and major decisions by Ryan Vulakh (160) and Jack Files (195). COUNCIL ROCK NORTH » Spring-Ford made a strong showing at the Rockyard Duals, rolling through its three pool matches before coming up just four points short of Downingtow­n West in the championsh­ip round on Jan. 6.

Brandon Meredith (120) and Tyler LaRocca (220) each went 4-0 with three pins in helping SF handle Ridley (53-20), LaSalle College (69-6) and the host Indians (54-21). Quinn Tobin (113), Dirk Nugent (132) and Joey Milano (160) also went 4-0 with pairs of pins to their credits, and Jack McGill pinned his way to a 3-1 record at 126.

Michael Gradwell (170/182) and Chase Smith (182/195) also went 3-1 with pairs of pins for the Rams, whose sweep was thwarted in a 31-27 loss to the Whippets.

Tobin’s 10-second drop against LaSalle was the Rams’ fastest fall — one second faster than McGill’s 11-second fall in the same match. For the day, Spring-Ford recorded 24 pins in its matches.
