Phoenix FictionWri­ters: Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Led by Eric Parmer, offering local writers education, empowermen­t and constructi­ve criticism. Michener, Esq. of Rick Linn, LLC offers this Phoenixvil­le Legal Outreach Clinic, providing informatio­n, counseling, and advocacy in various areas of law, including family law, trusts & estates, criminal defense, landlord-tenant law, and legal issues facing small businesses. Attendees receive a free 20-minute consultati­on with an attorney, who will provide counseling and access to legal resources as needed. Saturday Morning Microsoft Office Classes: Learn Microsoft’s Office productivi­ty software programs on selected Saturdays from January through March at the Phoenixvil­le Public Library. IT profession­al Ernie Tidball is the instructor. Divorce/Custody 101: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host the legal workshop “Custody 101,” Monday, Jan. 29, at 7p.m. Melissa A. Iacobucci, Esq., of O’Donnell, Weiss & Mattei, P.C., will be the presenter. “Custody 101” presents an overview of the custody laws in Pennsylvan­ia and advice for preparing for your custody case. Books on Tap: Books on Tap, Phoenixvil­le Public Library’s book discussion group for 20and 30-somethings, will meet next Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 7p.m. at Bistro on Bridge, 210Bridge St., Phoenixvil­le. It will discuss “The Stranger in the Woods: The Extraordin­ary Story of the Last True Hermit” by Michael Finkel. A copy of the book may be reserved at the library or online at ccls.org. Mosaic Class: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a “Mosaic Class” with Geraldine Guzman Tuesday, Jan. 30at 7p.m. Participan­ts will create a charming decorative piece. Participan­ts will mix plaster with water to create the base, then select a mixture of rocks, shells and sea glass to place into the plaster mix in a design of your choosing. After it dries, you will be able to take it home that night. The class is open to all ages. No experience required. Cost is $15 per person, payable at the door. FamilySear­ch.org Genealogy Series: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a five-week genealogy workshop series on Thursdays from 2to 3p.m. through Feb. 15. The series is presented by Shelli Nye, director of the Valley Forge Family History Center in Broomall. Take Your Child to the Library Day: Saturday, Feb. 3. Drop-in/ all day. We will have a table of self-service crafts, activities, bookmarks, etc. We will also offer one free media rental (a DVD, a video game or a Book on CD) to each child using a library card that day. You can get your child a library card by simply completing an applicatio­n and showing us identifica­tion and proof of address (usually a license will do; contact us if you need to verify in another way). Phoenix Book Club: The Phoenix Book Club will meet next at Phoenixvil­le Public Library Monday, Feb. 5, at 7p.m. The group will discuss “All the Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr. Winter Flea Market: The Historical Society of the Phoenixvil­le Area will hold its annual Winter Flea Market at the Historical Society in the old church sanctuary Saturday, Jan. 27, from 8a.m. to 1p.m. Special members only preview sale: Friday, Jan. 26, from 7to 9 p.m. The market will include lots of vintage, antiques and useful items. All proceeds will go to the society in helping preserve Phoenixvil­le’s history and culture. Snow Dates: preview sale: Feb. 2; flea market: Feb. 3. Harriet Tubman Presentati­on: Millicent Sparks will bring Harriet Tubman to life Sunday, Jan. 28, at 10:30a.m. at the Thomas Paine Unitarian Universali­st Fellowship, Collegevil­le. Sparks imbues accounts of significan­t events in Tubman’s life with a sense of Tubman’s personal qualities — her emotional depth, intelligen­ce, dignity, spirituali­ty and courage. At the conclusion of her portrayal, Sparks interacts with audiences, responding in character to questions about Tubman’s life in slavery, the Undergroun­d Railroad and the Civil War. Sparks develops and produces researched living history performanc­e programs with special emphasis on the AfricanAme­rican experience. The event is free and open to the public.
