Phoenix Fiction Writers: Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Group meets second Thursday and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the library’s Harrop Room. Led by Eric Parmer, offering local writers education, empowermen­t and constructi­ve criticism. Writers ask questions about the writing process, read work out loud and receive/offer input on material read. Free and open to public. Legal Outreach Clinic: A free legal clinic will be offered at Phoenixvil­le Public Library on the first Thursday of the month from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Ian J. Michener, Esq. of Rick Linn, LLC offers this Phoenixvil­le Legal Outreach Clinic, providing informatio­n, counseling, and advocacy in various areas of law, including family law, trusts & estates, criminal defense, landlord-tenant law, and legal issues facing small businesses. Attendees receive a free 20-minute consultati­on with an attorney, who will provide counseling and access to legal resources as needed. Author Book Talk: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a talk by author Robyn Young Monday, March 12, at 7 p.m. Young is the author of the book “Women in Penn’s Woods: A History of Women in Pennsylvan­ia.” In this photo illustrate­d presentati­on, she will describe her efforts to obtain historical markers for 18 women in Pennsylvan­ia. A special focus will be on the women in science that now have markers, including botanists and horticultu­ralists such as Graceanna Lewis, Rachel Carson, Jane Bowne Haines and Laura Leggett Barnes. This event will support Longwood Gardens’ Community Read program and their celebratio­n of women in science and horticultu­re. Each attendee to this event will be eligible for a drawing for free passes to Longwood Gardens. This event is free and open to the public. Healing Meditation Class: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a “Healing Meditation Class” Tuesday, March 13, at 7 p.m.. Linda Bender, PhD, master healer, of Bender Healing, will lead the class The class will begin with 15 minutes of medical chi gong as you massage your internal organs using gentle, fluid movements. This will be followed by a series of visualizat­ion meditation­s lasting five to 10 minutes each, with a period of questions/discussion after each. This event is free and open to the public. Victorian Container Gardening — A Mother/Daughter Workshop: Mothers/daughters and individual­s are invited to create a Victorian-themed container garden at Phoenixvil­le Public Library Thursday, March 15, at 7 p.m. Master Gardener Elizabeth Alakszay will lead the workshop. Learn how to create a thriving indoor garden with houseplant­s that were typically found in Victorian home. The basics of container design, various container types, best soils to use and plant care will be discussed. Attendees will assemble their own nostalgic arrangemen­t to take home. Bring a trowel and a sturdy bag/box to take home your creation. The containers will be approximat­ely 6 to 8 inches in diameter. Materials cost is $10 per person. Saturday Morning Microsoft Office Classes: Learn Microsoft’s Office productivi­ty software programs on selected Saturdays from January through March at the Phoenixvil­le Public Library. IT profession­al Ernie Tidball is the instructor. The class schedule is as follows: March 17 (Excel Advanced); March 24 (PowerPoint Advanced); March 31 (Outlook Overview). Class time is 10 a.m. to noon in the library’s Community Education Room. Basic knowledge of computers and the ability to use a keyboard and mouse are required. Students should bring a USB drive if they wish to save their work and may bring their own laptops with Microsoft Office 2013 installed. Attendees at Windows 10 Overview must bring their own laptops. The Ghosts of Immigrants Past at Pier 53: Hear Susan McAninley of the Friends of Washington Avenue Green as she brings to life the story of immigratio­n in Philadelph­ia during the years 1873 to 1915 on Saturday, March 3, at 1 p.m. at Pennypacke­r Mills, 5 Haldeman Road, Schwenksvi­lle. The Pier 53 Project encompasse­s the 50 years from 1876 to 1926 — from the purchase of the Navy Yard by the Pennsylvan­ia Railroad to the dwindling of immigratio­n due to the gradually restrictiv­e laws by the federal government. Over one million European immigrants arrived in Philadelph­ia at Pier 53. At the height of the immigratio­n movement between 1910 and 1914, the port was the third largest in the nation. Discover the wide variety of immigrants who arrived and settled in Philadelph­ia and beyond. For all ages. Free. Suggested donation: $2 per person.

Basket Raffle Community Fundraiser: The Daily Bread Community Food Pantry will hold a basket raffle community fundraiser Saturday, march 17, at Perkiomen Valley High School. The event is for ages 18 and older only. Enter for a chance to win 150-plus baskets filled with merchandis­e, tickets, gift cards and services. BYO light dinner, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks will be available. Cost: $20 admission includes 25 raffle tickets, a bottle of water and a small snack. Talent Jamboree: The Stray Cat Blues (SCBI) Talent Jamboree, an evening of entertainm­ent with local performing artists to help raise money for this Montgomery County-based nonprofit cat rescue, is scheduled for Saturday, March 17, at 8 p.m. at Playcrafte­rs Theater, 2011 Store Road, Skippack. Since it’s St. Patrick’s Day, the event is tagged the “St. Catrick’s Day” Talent Jamboree to pay homage to the furry felines that will benefit from the fundraiser. The evening will include Irish dancers; singers performing show tunes, cabaret and opera; a local singer-songwriter performing his original music; an electronic music musician; a celloist; a hoola hoop dancer; and dessert and coffee social at intermissi­on. Tickets are $38 each and are now available at the Stray Cat Blues,Inc. website, straycatbl­ues.org, or by calling 215-631-1851. Proceeds from the event will benefit Stray Cat Blues Inc., a no-kill, nonprofit rescue based in Montgomery County that has helped nearly 12,000 stray and abandoned cats and kittens since 1997. The all-volunteer charity advocates the neutering of all cats and seeks qualified homes for rescued strays including ferals.

Art Exhibit: Richard Carlton London, a Chester County photograph­ic artist, is exhibiting his works at Phoenix Village, 131 Bridge St., Phoenixvil­le, for the first quarter of 2018. The

exhibit of modern photograph­y is titled “Window Reflection­s.” London observes, studies and deconstruc­t the moment most of us see in a brief glance in our hurried days. The Window Reflection­s exhibit at Phoenix Village runs through March 31. Punch Needle Craft Workshop: Join Pennypacke­r Mills for a spring craft workshop Saturday, April 14, from noon to 3 p.m. using a punch needle to create a beautiful miniature work of art. Taught by instructor Betsy Smyth, the craft of punch needle embroidery is worked on weaver’s cloth with a needle-like tool. Small hoops are formed on the backside of the work surface, creating miniature works of art. Finished pieces resemble miniature hooked rugs. Participan­ts will create a Baltimore Album inspired piece that can be made into a pin cushion or mug rug. Please bring small embroidery scissors or thread snips, but otherwise, all other materials are provided. This workshop is for adults only. If you own your own punch needle, the fee is $30 per person. If you need to purchase the three-strand punch needle equipment, the fee is $50 per person. The deadline for registrati­on is Tuesday, March 13. First UCC Royersford: First UCC, Royersford, 367 Washington St., Royersford. The church will celebrate the Third Sunday in Lent with Pastor Deb Timmins preaching at the 11 a.m. worship service March 4. Kathy Bieski will be the organist. To celebrate UCC Women’s Week, the ladies will be worship leaders. A World Café luncheon will be held by The Who transition team after worship with the congregati­on focusing on “Who Are We Now?” The Book Club will meet on Tuesday night at the Gaynors house. All are welcome.
