MCCC named an OSHA Training Institute Education Center
POTTSTOWN » The Workforce Development division at Montgomery County Community College was recently approved as a Mid-Alantic Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Training Institute Education Center.
With the designation, MCCC joins a network of organizations across the country that are authorized by OSHA to provide occupational safety and health training to public and private sector workers, supervisors and employers.
As an OSHA Training Institute, MCCC will begin offering a variety of courses and certifications businesses and industry need for licenses, compliance and regulatory practices. The college will also provide trainer education — educating employees on how to train and certify other employees, according to a press release.
“We recognize that manufac- turing is still one of the coun- ty’s largest employment sectors, and we are seeing growth in our manufacturing economy,” Jim Fox, MCCC’s executive director of workforce development said in the release. “Becoming an OSHA Training Institute is another way we can continue to help Mont- gomery County manufacturers train their workforce.” The college’s first offering will be the OSHA 10-Hour Certifica- tion for General Industry Pro- gram; offered May 22 and 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at MCCC’s West Campus, 95 S. Hanover Street, Pottstown.
The OSHA 10 module is the primary method used to train workers on hazard recognition and OSHA safety standards, according to the release. The training covers specific OSHA regulations and requirements as they apply to general industry.
Future classes will include OSHA 7115 (Lockout/ Tag out); OSHA 511 (Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry); and OSHA 711 (Introduction to Machinery and Machine Safeguarding).
“This is just the beginning. We plan to continue offer training that is valuable to Montgomery County businesses. Employers can send their employees to us, and in many instances, we can come to them and train at their place of employment,” Fox added.
The cost for the OSHA 10 class is $200 per registrant. To register, contact Gary Hines, MCCC director of workforce development, at 610-718-1974 or ghines@mc3.edu.
In September 2017, MCCC reorganized its workforce development efforts and relocated MCCC’s workforce development team to the former University Center building on the West Campus in Pottstown.
In making the announcement about the reorganization, MCCC President Kevin Pollock said at the time that he was confident the reorganization “will strengthen the college’s workforce development capabilities, broaden the college’s role as an anchor institution in Pottstown, and will generally benefit the county and the college.”
MCCC’s Workforce Development department offers a variety of Fast-Track to Employment programs, as well as a variety of industry certification programs, and works closely with employers to create customized training solutions for their employees.
