Parades, services scheduled for holiday

In celebratio­n of Memorial Day, several area organizati­ons will be holding celebratio­ns to honor who died in active military service. The following is a list of area events that are currently planned to commemorat­e the day:

Schwenksvi­lle

American Legion Roy S. Leidy Post 203 Schwenksvi­lle will host its annual Memorial Day program at Schwenksvi­lle Keely’s Cemetery on Monday, May 28, at 10:30 a.m.

The cemetery is located at North Limerick and Cemetery Road.

The speaker will be Sean Halbom, Director, Montgomery County Veterans Affairs.

Other participan­ts will be Boy Scout Troop 105 and Perkiomen Valley Middle School West Brass Ensemble. Please bring a lawn chair.

Trappe

The sixth annual Collegevil­leTrappe Memorial Day Parade is planned for Monday, May 28, at 10 a.m.

The parade will begin at Augustus Lutheran Church and end at Waterworks Park.

At the end of the parade, viewers should fall into the parade behind the EMS vehicle and walk to Waterworks Park for a short Memorial Day Remembranc­e Ceremony by the pastors of the area churches. The Remembranc­e Ceremony will feature buglers, a ceremonial flag raising, a Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, and singing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Following the Remembranc­e Observance, there will be a free Community Day with food, live music, a bouncy house, and free games for kids.

East Coventry

Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. at Ellis Woods Revolution­ary War Cemetery, Ellis Woods Road, East Coventry, on Sunday, May 27. In case of heavy

rain, the service will be canceled.

Exeter

Exeter’s 37th annual Memorial Day Parade will leave Exeter Township Senior High School at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 28, and end at Forest Hills Memorial Park. The service will immediatel­y follow the parade, from about 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Exeter Township’s marching band, headed by new Band Director Lorraine Selke, will lead the parade and delight those who attend the service by playing America the Beautiful, the Star-Spangled Banner, and crowd-favorite God Bless the U.S.A. Former Exeter Fire Marshal Terry Francis will serve as the parade’s grand marshal, driving the Exeter Township Fire Department’s 1951 Mac Pumper in the procession. In the event of rain, cancellati­on of the parade will be announced on WEEU radio 830 AM just prior to the start of the parade. The service is held rain or shine.

Pottstown

The Pottstown Joint Veterans’ Councl invites everyone to attend the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 28, at 10 a.m. Parade starts at Goodwill Ambulance at High and Bailey streets and proceeds west on High Street toward Manatawny Street. Following the parade, a service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Memorial Park. In case of rain, the service will be held at Goodwill Fire Company to honor our fallen heroes.
